The stamp on the front is in the wrong place. It's hard to believe they would make that mistake. I'm leaning towards fake too.

I owned a bedford wallet, different style though. This is what the lining looked like. The second picture shows the size and placement of the stamp on the front.

Thanks for the photos, Whateve. Most if not all of my early 2000s leather wallets also have the same Logo lining.

Hi Authenticators,

Can you please verify the authenticity of the following bag I bought from Ebay? I'm not sure of the stamping on the serial number. It has been shipped, but I have not received it yet.

Item: Taylor bag
Listing number: 265250414892
Seller: Xstang66

Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much guys for all of your help!
I will have to read over the guides. So much to remember when it comes to coach. Are there such a thing is a super fake vintage Coach ? Sorry if this is a silly question. Still very new to the world of vintage Coach but let me just say I am in love
Probably. There could be super fake anything. If they had a real one, they could copy it exactly. Then how would we know if wasn't authentic?

One thing that makes superfakes more likely in recent bag styles is the advance in computer design over the last 20 or 30 years. A computer can scan a fabric design and copy it exactly into the programming of a modern computer-controlled weaving machine. It can probably copy a modern (OR vintage!) creed stamp and add it to the programming of a machine that can copy it onto a new stamping mechanism.

There could very easily be exact copies of vintage bags being pumped out of shops in China or Korea or just about anywhere right now. As Whateve said, unless the fakers made some un-copyable mistake like using a serial number with a date code 5 years before that style was even made, we'd probably never know. And if vintage bags keep selling for ridiculously inflated prices like we've been seeing the last few years, there's a good chance it might happen if it hasn't happened already.

Almost all current AAA fakes are of current or recent bags, because the high retail prices give them enough room to make a decent profit. (Coach can sell boutique bags at a 60 percent off price at the outlets and still be making a profit on them). Counterfeiters won't waste time making fakes unless they can make money on them. Vintage supposedly pre-owned bags are a different situation because most of the time there wasn't much if any profit in them. But the situation is changing. Making a fake Winnie that might have sold on Ebay for 80 or 100 dollars a few years ago might not have been worth their time. But a Fake Winnie that's now bringing 500 dollars or more on the secondary market is another story entirely.

Crooks go where the money is. The more money they believe they can make on a fake, the more they're willing to spend on labor and materials to fool potential buyers. Even experts employed by the most expensive handbag makers have admitted that some of the recent superfakes are almost impossible to tell from the real thing.

Ok I just found it in a message.

Hi all - I just received this item and pretty sure it's fake. I saw the discussion about how wallets can be difficult to verify, but am hoping there's enough to confirm yay or nay. I added additional pictures in case needed. The seller packaged the item very well, so seems unlikely they intentionally sold a fake, but wanted to be sure (if possible) before I request a return.

Item: Wallet / card holder

Comments: The leather doesn't feel right, there's no made in tag, and the lining is a pattern I haven't seen before (and a rough feeling fabric.)

I've never seen that lining either, but I've never owned that style wallet. I think I know what it's trying to copy but there's no way to know what kind of lining or pattern individual wallet styles had. All the Coach wallets I've ever owned had plain, Sig C or Coach logo linings.

Unless someone can verify that at least one line of wallets from 20 years ago had that generic pattern lining, I wouldn't recommend buying it. Coach also isn't known to use "rough feeling fabric" for their linings.

ETA - comparing it to what I think it's copying, the "COACH" stamp on the front isn't right either, the position and size are way off.

This is what I think is being copied - MORE OPINIONS ARE WELCOME:

Thank you, Hyacinth - I appreciate the extra research to find the style it's trying to copy. It's pretty close and the measurements are about right, but the stamp is pretty far off as you pointed out.

I've had several Bedford items also (including the same wallet as @whateve posted) and all have lozenge lining.

I've seen that diamond lining before and it's always been on a fake.

The listing doesn't show it but I'm betting that the zipper pull is off also. @Bales25, please post a picture of the zipper pull.
