Not feeling good about this bag. I swear it was discussed in the Coach forum multiple times and now I can't find any of the mentions. I received it today and my fake radar is pinging.

Vintage Coach Bonnie Cashin Watermelon Big Mouth Kisslock Leather Shoulder Bag
cassette.tapes

Item #-224547049985

I read a few discussions of mentions on here of bags that turned out to be fakes that were removed and am wondering if this was one.
Any time you think some details are setting your radar "pinging" it would be a BIG help if you could explain what those details are. Because even though I'm not an expert on pre-creeds I'm not seeing anything "pingable". And my crystal ball is in the repair shop. :graucho:

Please wait for @whateve to take a look. Maybe she's familiar with those reported fakes.
It's very lightweight. No grommets around the holes on the strap. No Coach insignia. And, to me this is surprising, it doesn't open--no zipper, nothing. Just the 'big mouth' opens. I'm hoping I'm just naive about these early bags but I have two others that are not at all like this.

There's a Coach cartouche in one of the photos. Third one from the top, right above the kisslock in the photo. It's worn down but I'd be worried if it wasn't.

That design with just the kisslock opening and no access at the top seems to have been a legitimate style, I've seen them here before. And not having a top zipper or grommets is helping keep the weight down.

And not all bags had straps with grommets.

Again, wait for @whateve
I believe it is authentic. I think the discussion of this bag was in the vintage chat thread. I owned the same bag. It looked exactly the same; the cartouche was behind the kisslock so you can't see it when you are carrying the bag. The style number might have been 9140, possibly called shoulder frame pouch. It is a very rare style.

ETA: Grommets weren't used on most, if not all, precreed bag straps. I can't remember seeing one with grommets. The buckles are thin because they are probably solid brass.

Can somebody authenticate this for me, please?

We need to see the labels on the inside.

@whateve, thank you so much. I have no idea why this bag set off such anxiety but I am very grateful to have your opinion and, of course, @Hyacinth's as well. Thank you both for not making me feel as idiotic as I already do. Off to the liquor cabinet--it's finally after 5pm here.

there are no labels on the inside, does that mean it's fake?

If the bag is 14 by 10 inches as your tape measure indicates, there should be a leather patch inside that includes a creed statement and a serial number. There might also be a small "MADE IN ..." tag on the inside, usually on a seam, and/ or a small hard to find tag near the bottom of one of the inside pockets with 2 rows of letters and numbers.

As Whateve already said, we need to see the inside of the bag. If there's nothing at all sewn onto the lining, that could be a problem.

You said you searched the style number. WHERE did you find the style number? Or were you just looking for a similar style trying to find the number?

Genuine. The style number, font used in the Coach stamp on the front, lining, and all the other details seem to indicate that all the pieces are from the same time, very late 1990s or early 2000s. The seller's date of 2002 is probably correct. And I have the number right before it, 6989, as a Large Cosmetic Case. IF it was made in 2002 it will be vintage next year.
Thank you for sharing your wealth of Coach knowledge @Hyacinth!
