WOW. This has been an interesting fake to study!...
It would be hard to believe that counterfeiters would waste their time making a one-off and I've never seen another example of this possible fake before so I'm hesitant about reporting it. But there's absolutely NO WAY I would ever recommend buying it.

Other opinions are welcome.

Spectacular detective work, thank you so much for your time and the thorough explanation. I will be staying away from that listing. This type of expertise is one of the best things about coming back to the Coach forum!

Good afternoon dear authenticators! Another request to authenticate please. Thank you!!!

Item: Soho bucket bag? 4148
Where purchased or how obtained: thrift store
Comments: dimensions are 9" height, 7 1/2" width, almost 3 1/2" depth. I am organising and have seen that there are quite a few that I don't believe I had requested an authentication. Please let me know when to stop, I don't wish to flood the thread or 'overstay my welcome'. Thank you!!! ETA the "H" in the creed concerns me.

WOW. This has been an interesting fake to study!

It's definitely fake (I THINK!). I even found the style it was copying, a Madison Brief style 5325 also made in China in 2000 but with a genuine China creed stamp and a genuine S plant code. (There was a B plant code being used very briefly in 2000 but apparently only for limited production items, see the last 2 photos).

The briefcase styles are identical, but the fake doesn't seem to have the same metal "slider" closure under the buckles as the genuine one. The fake was probably copied at the Chinese plant that was making the real one but with a different creed and VERY different serial number.

Here's the brown fake with the E0B-5355 half-upside-down serial number - click on the thumbnails to enlarge if necessary:

and a GENUINE Madison Brief from 2000, H0S-5325 made in China's "S" plant:

and finally, a GENUINE B-plant, possibly temporary, Made in the US creed for a Limited Edition "Bonnie Retro Hobo" Cashin remake

Someone went through a lot of trouble to copy that Madison Brief but then messed up completely on the creed and serial number details.

ETA (ACMA) - to be completely fair to the seller, there's maybe a 1 in 10,000 chance that it's genuine and was just a badly messed up sample or pilot, but I've never seen one with such a screwed-up serial number stamp before, or one that used a B plant code. I've seen a few, less than a dozen maybe, other serials with MAYBE one number upside down but never two and never when the style number itself isn't correct.

It would be hard to believe that counterfeiters would waste their time making a one-off and I've never seen another example of this possible fake before so I'm hesitant about reporting it. But there's absolutely NO WAY I would ever recommend buying it.

I agree. The shape of the zero, as well as some of the other letters, is completely off.
