Item: Coach (or Fauxch) Bleeker Bucket, 10”h x 10”w x 4”d
Where purchased or how obtained: Thrift store in April before I was aware of this forum
Comments: Thanks to Hyacinth, I read the SaleAreaGuides and discovered that the “J4K- prefixes are ALWAYS fake”. I’m just double-checking and wallowing in shame. At least it was cheap. Thank you, always, for all that you do for us and your time.

Yep, it's still fake. Looks like it's trying to be a Bleecker Bucket but failing miserably. And the date code is 3 or 4 years off too.

Ack, one more I just won!

Comments: From the 60s/70s?

Thanks again!

The one you're asking about is genuine, probably a City Bag made in the early to mid-1980s.

Coaches made in the 1960s and PROBABLY the 1970s would NOT have serial numbers, from the recent evidence we've found, although it's slightly possible that serial numbers may have come into use right around 1980. Read the six Salearea Guides posted here at tPF for an ACCURATE history of Coach creeds and numbers. Any seller who claims any Coach with a serial number was made in the 1960s OR during the time Bonnie Cashin was designing for Coach, which ended in 1974, is badly misinformed or just plain clueless.

And for heaven's sake, don't believe much, if any, of those useless, inaccurate and just plain dangerous "authenticity guides" you find on the internet. Just because the ones who wrote and posted them don't mind looking like fools who don't understand the meaning of "research" doesn't mean that you have to accept their misinformation as fact.

Yes, I had read the guides which is why I thought it was from the 60s or 70s (not the seller). It has the "Leatherware" stamped and also has a serial number that isn't a style number. So is this bag not authentic? Thanks!

Thank you. Is the lightweight line alot thinner than the traditional vintage leather?

The leathers are thinner and the hardware is lighter. Coach started moving away from solid brass hardware with this line and introduced plated brass over a lighter-weight base metal, and even started using nylon zippers on some styles.

I added that to my post. If we call something a Coach or give it a Coach name or number, it's a Coach. Fakes don't get names and don't deserve names.

Thank you for the insight on this line; greatly appreciated. I continue to learn. Thanks again.
