IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Hello authenticators. Can you look at this bag...serial reads J8h-4924 and its a color I have never seen before somewhat of a light blue. 7" H x 8".5w found at thrift store. Thank you

J8H- serial prefixes are ALWAYS fake. And style number 4924 would only be found in a Sonoma, which would have the standard striped Sonoma lining and the "gentle tumbling... " wording in the creed. The shape of the creed patch especially the corners would never by found in any Coach bag. There are other problems too especially with the hardware such as the zipper pulls but those are the biggies.

Insist on a full refund.

Authenticate this coach - 5180
I am new here but I was wondering how it works to have an item authenticated.

I am not sure how to start a new thread. So if I am doing this incorrectly, please feel free to remove. C2D-5180 is the coach creed.
You're in the right place. All authentication requests belong in this thread.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but that briefcase is a FAKE. You did NOT include the required information that's listed in the READ ME post at the top of every page so I can't give you any advice on how you might be able to get your money back, or whether or not you even own the fake. For any future authentications or for any more help with this one, please include the required information or we won't be able to help. Each forum has its own rules and users need to follow them.

When a post at the top of every page in an authentication forum says IMPORTANT - READ ME in Bolded capital letters, it's always a good idea to do as it suggests.
Thank you so much for the feedback. Newbie here and dropped the ball on the first post.
  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item: Coach Metropolitan Bag 5180
    Where purchased or how obtained
Comments: June2,2021 (Poshmark) of course, I am pass the 3 day mark. Bummer.
In addition to knowing that it came from Poshmark (a minefield, BTW, when it comes to fakes and safety), we need the seller's ID and a link to the actual listing.

I'd still recommend contacting PM admin and trying to get a refund.

But if all else fails, if you funded the payment with a credit card, file a dispute through the card company.

Maybe @BeenBurned can chime in about that Poshmark time limit. If an item is counterfeit, can a seller even enforce a time limit, assuming it's a reasonable one? Selling counterfeits is illegal, PERIOD.

Your other option would be to contact your credit card company if you paid with a major credit card or Paypal, which I would recommend that you ALWAYS do when dealing with any site that's as awash with counterfeits and as reluctant to remove them as Poshmark is.

@BeenBurned, any suggestions?

ETA -
Never mind, she beat me to it.

It's not the seller with the time limit. It's Poshmark's policy. I think they release the money to the seller and if the seller isn't honorable, she won't GAS about ripping off a buyer.

I did post my recommendations in post #61,952 for @KKlassic to try. I hope it works out. (And yes, I'm trying to find the listing from which she purchased!)

Thank you I plan on doing just that!

Hi @Hyacinth! Apologies for the delay between posts, but I had a question about this potential id.

This bag arrived today and on closer inspection it’s not an Envelope Portfolio due to some differences I’ll list below. It is probably part of a feminine professional line. But as you’ve already authenticated, should I move this to another thread? Maybe Vintage due to age? Just let me know and I’ll move.

The first bag I asked to authenticate WAS an Envelope Portfolio, but my 056-2130 doesn’t have the same characteristics. It’s a similar size, but has two separate straps that attach to the front and back in the middle, the straps that are sewn in the round like thick piping, there are front and back pockets in addition to the main compartment and interior zippered pocket, and there’s a magnetic closure under the flap. I’ve attached some clearer pictures.

It's definitely not an Equestrian Shopper, but it's like that one made larger with tube-like straps and a little tab epaulet holding them on, like a Broadway Bag with longer straps. I'm sorry for the poor comparison, I'm not familiar enough with the style variations to offer a better comparison.

Any ideas? (I stuck it next to my Willis for size reference.)

By George, I think I've got it!

The problem is that the only place I've been able to find it is in the Spring 1991 paper catalog on page 35 but it's not in any of the 50th Anniversary or 1991 Holiday catalogs. Apparently it's one of those very short-lived styles where if you blinked, you missed it. But thanks to you we now have more photos. I can't post the catalog pic since we don't have a scanner, but if you just look at it quickly it looks a lot like the Envelope Portfolio. Maybe that's why it didn't stay around long.

The style number is 5091 and it was called a Hampshire Brief. The description says:
"Full length outside back pocket. Full length front pocket under leather-lined flap.Inside zipper pocket.Hidden magnetic snap closure, 16 1/2 x 11 x 4 inches. Black, British Tan, Burgundy, Mahogany. $292."

ETA - It's also one of those oddball items where the Coach plant that made it extended the use of the old 3+4 serial number format into 1991 and 1992 even though everyone else had changed to the new 4+3 system very early in 1990.

I have another to be authenticated please. Purchased at a good will near me. Measures 7" H x 11" W serial reads G0C-9071. Leather feels a bit thinner than the regular vintage coach bags. Thank you again!

It's definitely genuine, now I just need to figure out what it is. Made in the early 1990s. Give me a few minutes.

Item: Coach (or Fauxch) Bleeker Bucket, 10”h x 10”w x 4”d
Where purchased or how obtained: Thrift store in April before I was aware of this forum
Comments: Thanks to Hyacinth, I read the SaleAreaGuides and discovered that the “J4K- prefixes are ALWAYS fake”. I’m just double-checking and wallowing in shame. At least it was cheap. Thank you, always, for all that you do for us and your time.
