BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.

  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number

  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read

Hello, hope someone can help authenticate this bag. Longtime lurker, have read alot re serial numbers, looked at lots of listings and various catalogue pages.
Based on what I've seen/read the bag looks legit, serial number/creed looks consistent with others from same time/ factory. Appears to be 1997 from a US factory. Only slight worry is that I haven't seen many in this colour. Is this a rare early Ergo Pocket?

There's a lot more information on problematic serial numbers in the Daria48 Fake Coach Numbers List Parts 1 and 2 posted in the Salearea Guides thread. If you read my reply to another member just a few posts above your question, post # 59492, you'll find the links to both guides and a brief explanation of what they include. They're geared toward classic and vintage Coach and I hope you find them useful. Any corrections we felt were needed after the originals were posted can be found in the posts right after the Daria48 list. "J8Y-" is one of the numbers on the list.

It's not as well-organized as I would have liked but it's a reference tool that was put together over a decade, and the link to both guides is right above this authentication thread on the pages with an index where it's easy to find.

Etsy hardly ever removes fakes, or even listings that violate their Rules regarding the age of items they allow on the site. All we can do is try. The seller will probably just relist it.

There's a Report link on Etsy listing pages, you have to scroll down a bit to find it. Report counterfeits as "prohibited".


ETA - I just looked quickly at 2 more of her "Coaches". I have serious concerns about a Navy 9965 "Trail Bag" but I'd have to see more photos to be sure. The other bag, another Rambler's Legacy in red, didn't even include a creed photo.

I would use a lot of caution buying from Etsy seller " trunkofjewels " unless she includes or supplies better photos of the known highly faked details for the bags she's selling. They're not being properly authenticated.

Instagram is dangerous as there's no oversight to vet sellers and items. Many buyers don't have convenient access to stores and have to buy online, but it's much safer to buy from a site to which you can report fakes and have recourse in the event of a dispute.

Additionally, the Philippines seems to have an unusually high number of fakes and many of the fakes are close. rubypurple, insist on a refund. coachbagoutlet_ph sells fakes and lots of them!

ETA: Here's a comparison of creeds from coachbagoutlet_ph vs. a creed from an authentic version of the same style.

Thank you very much! The seller kept on insisting it’s not fake and won’t refund my payment. :( Lesson learned. Will take your advice and purchase only in sites that can facilitate any disputes. There are so many Coach resellers in the Philippines and most of them sell on IG. I will find a way to report the seller to the local authorities. Thanks again!

It's authentic. It isn't early. It was made at the correct time for that style. The color was called kiwi.
