Thanks Hyacinth! This is good to know because I just received a Goodwill mystery box today with 3 (not so great) Coach bags inside. Of course, one was a very sad and ripped swingpack without a serial number. Doh. Lol.

It's really hard to authenticate that not so great new Swingpack. The creed isn't readable. And I've never seen any Coach fabric that beat up before. It Looks like it was either chewed on, or dragged behind a truck. Maybe both.

Good morning authenticators, would be grateful if you’d confirm authenticity on an impulse purchase:

Item: I think/hope this is a 9535 Saddlery bag? It’s not listed well.
Seller: rachelkjhgfdsa / Poshmark
Link: https://posh.mk/2mEM19Bjodb
Comments: I never feel like I have a good handle on colors, but I’m thinking this one might be putty?

It's a genuine Saddlery Bag from around 1986-87.

Lol. It's a disaster. No problem authenticating it since it needs to go in the garbage. Thanks anyway. I appreciate your humor. I needed that. :giggle:

You didn't include a link if you bought it from GW's online site, and didn't include measurements so it can't be identified. And you didn't say why you think it might be fake. Please remember to include the information required in the instructions in the Read Me post.

It looks genuine to me but that's all I can tell you.

Thanks for you reply, I bought it from a local GW store so there is no link.

The measurements are below:
Length: 11"
Width: 3"
Height: 8"

i think it’s fake because I couldn’t find any similar bags wih the creed number. But of course I’m no expert so I didn’t include my assumption in the comment.

I'm pretty sure that the bag is authentic but I don't know how much "fixing" it'll take to make it usable! It looks wider than a swingpack so it might be a file bag.

If you check deep inside the inner pocket, there may be a little white label hidden there with the production codes (2 rows characters).

ETA: It may be style 36378:

Hi
It's not listed online and it didn't come with a tag. I keep failing to take a clear photo of the creed but I believe the serial number is No 1984-73995. Thank you, @BeenBurned.
Did the bag come with 2 straps? The style is supposed to have a short and a long crossbody strap. I can't see where they'd even attach from the pictures you posted.

There are a few things I see in the pictures you posted that bother me. I'm not comfortable with it.
Yeah, it comes with 2 straps. It was a preorder. She posted the real photos and I only saw the real condition of the bag when I got it. And yes, there're so many things about this bag bothering me. Like rusty area on the strap link metal, uneven seams and poor leather quality. So, I took the photos and complained her and she still insisted that it was 100% authentic even though she had nothing to prove. That's when I came to this forum beacuse I wanted your opinion. On the other hand, I was trying to get a new authentic one from another reliable source. And I've got it yesterday and sent her photos comparing 2 bags.( photos attached) Only then, she accepted it was a fake one and offered me a refund.
@BeenBurned, Thank you for answering me patiently. Now, things are sorted out.

If you read the six Salearea Coach Guides that I've often recommended
and that are posted and Pinned to the top of every page in this Coach Shopping forum with an Index, you'll learn WHY you couldn't find the serial number of the bag you bought anywhere else.

Genuine City Bag, late 1980s

Thank you for your help. I’ll find and read that six Salearea Coach Guides now ☺️

Hi authenticators, I just find out that you can also authenticate modern coach purse. I have one Coach chambray tabby that I purchase from eBay. The seller says it's authentic but don't have the original packaging and dust bag. And he says he got it from a supplier that has a contract with FedEx for all items that are undeliverable. It's quite expensive and I'm not sure about its authenticity. Could you help me check it?

Comments: He didn't post the real photos on ebay. So I attach photos below.

Hi @Hyacinth, in your threads Salearea Guides, you mention in some creed there will be "Made in NY city" or "Made in the US" at the bottom of the creed. But I just purchase a bag that has "Made in Costa Rica" at the bottom of the creed. Could you help me check if it's authentic?

Thank you!
You probably didn't read all the Salearea Guides. The first creeds had "Made in New York City, U.S.A." In the late 80s, they opened a second plant, and changed the creeds to reflect they were made in the United States. There was no identification as which of the two plants made each bag. In the early 90s, they added more plants outside of the US, so creeds of the bags made at those plants will mention the country of manufacture. Sometime after 1994, they again changed the wording of the creeds, removing the line at the bottom that mentioned the place of manufacture and incorporating the place of manufacture in the body of the creed.

The bag in the listing is authentic. It is a Sheridan Monticello, made in 1994.

Thank you!

And there's a LOT more there, it's spread out in multiple paragraphs and even in more than one Guide. Just a small part:

"At first all Coaches were made in the original factory in New York City, and the early creeds say "Made in New York City, U.S.A." on the bottom. When Coach began adding new plants in the late 1980s, the wording at the bottom of the creed was changed starting in 1988 to "Made In The United States". Production at the NYC plant was eventually stopped so that the building could be used as Coach's corporate Headquarters. All this happened shortly after the owners who had built up Coach as a handbag and fine leatherware maker sold the company to Sara Lee in 1985. New plants were quickly added including one in Puerto Rico which was still considered a U.S. plant. Coach opened retail locations in Japan and other countries and opened their first outlet stores starting around 1990.

"Then in 1991 Coach began producing several lines of pebbled leather bags in Italy. The early line called Dakota Classics had a creed patch and statement unique to that style bag, but no serial numbers at all. Then came the Sheridan line which was made in Italy, the US and also Costa Rica, some with, and some without, serial numbers. The country the bag was made in was still noted on the bottom line of the creed, which on these bags was now a separate stamped leather patch sewn onto the lining or right onto the inside back pocket..."

and much more. It takes more than one reading to even begin to absorb what's in the Guides and how it all goes together.
