No, that was my fault, I'm sorry if it sounded bad. We can usually tell if a bag has a different style of strap than what's in the catalog or on a webpage, but it's impossible to know if it's actually been replaced. The STYLE and details of the strap on yours are correct for a Stewardess that was made for the airlines - double thickness, smooth, no large brass grommets on the strap, that sort of thing, but whether it's the original strap or a replacement in the correct style is impossible to know. If it turns out to actually have a stamped logo that we somehow missed, that would be a good indication that it's the original strap.

Even with the airline versions, we know that United Airlines bags had their logo stamped on the strap but if Coach also sold that style to other airlines I don't remember seeing any with other airlines' logos. There's still a lot about vintage bags we DON'T know.
I really appreciate your generosity and kindness taking time to explain further for me @Hyacinth - and I value every snippet of insight you share with me and everyone else here on TPF. The above information is extremely worthwhile, thank you once again.

She has already received her first coat of CPR.

Stay safe

Hello Again @Hyacinth

Well...I’ve just removed the strap for a 2nd coat of CPR, and on the underside there is the attached marking embossed into the leather...who knew...?! The colour differentiation is due to me trying to sharpen up the images...

Does this mean anything? If I should be in a different thread, apologies.

Many thanks in advance, as always.

Hi. What is the opinion of bags made in Costa Rica? I have spied this on ShopGoodwill.com
I apologize if Im doing something wrong here.

You're doing everything right, don't worry!

The bag is a Legacy Small Zip made in 1998. The Costa Rica bags are usually listed by many of the vintage collectors here as being their favorite Coach leathers, because of the thickness and softness of the leather and the quality of the workmanship. They're also much less likely to be fake than vintage bags with USA or Italy creeds.

And don't worry about the apparently upside-down 8 in the serial number, we've seen that in genuine Costa Rica bags before.

Comments:

1- genuine Stewardess, 1999. A reissue of the original version

2- genuine, from 2012

3- did you get the serial number from Goodwill? You're correct, it definitely shouldn't have a zipper on the inside pocket. And the hardware looks more like nickel than brass and wouldn't have been available on ANY Coach made in 1994.
