I clearly do not know how to navigate here. Sorry for the lack of tech!
I don't know to continue the conversation on the same post.
I was interested to know the color of this bag and possible age?
Thanks so much for your help!

Basic bag

It is most likely British tan, but it could be saddle depending on how reddish it is IRL. It was made between 1978 and 1983, approximately.

Thanks!! Do you know what color this bag is?

Read my post again. And understand that some of us including me will continue to make additions or changes to a post up until the end of the editing window, so don't assume that my original answer is all there is. If something's worth saying, then saying a lot more just adds to the value. Right? Or so I keep telling myself. Never use just one word when 12 or 15 or 42 will do.

So why the heck does it say in the Comments
"v************ and 3 others like this "? (Asterisks mine, use your imaginations)

And why in dog's name does he need to know if the buckle says Solid brass after seeing the creed and serial number?

"I should know better from last AT check he followed from my link here and etc. etc.."

Of course he follows people. He looks for great deals that members brag about, he copies information we post about how we authenticate because, as he complained at the Ebay forum, he doesn't want to do his own research and feels that the other "VERY Deceiving!" Ebay authenticators should share all their information with him-

"Good afternoon. I would just like to say that this ebay Community Site has offered me COUNTLESS authentication References in the past and I have been MORE Than Delighted, Happy and Appreciative of the knowledge That these EXPERTS on this site have done for the Vintage Coach 'World'. I just wish these People that are supposed to be here to HELP you would freely share their Knowledge. I believe NOT to do so is VERY Deceiving!"
(this from someone who has recently made his main Facebook page Private so no one else, especially tPF members who he's specifially stated are NOT WELCOME, can see what they're talking about.)

ETA -and until very recently at least one of his previously devoted forum minions has settled into the Vintage Chat thread after saying what a nasty site tPF was and after promising TWICE that she was never coming back. Now "things are different". Maybe she's seen the reality behind the mask, I don't know, but for her sake I hope so. Time will tell. As always, I reserve my right to be a cynic, it's an age thing.

Always assume that you're being watched. And always keep great deals to yourself until the item is actually in your hands, regardless of which thread here you posted to. A word to the Wise.

Hello all! I always appreciated your help. Why would someone say that to you guys?

Thank you Hyacinth for the color info and info in the workings of this site, and Been Burned for authentication! I was guilty of thinking my question of color was overlooked! :confused1: I know now to patient and the answer will come!! I was also guilty of last minute bidding. Live
and learn. Thanks for all ya'll do!!!

Ooops! It's a Canadian expression, 'you guys' means in the states 'you all'

"You guys" isn't just Canadian, it's very "Chicago" too, we were using that in grade school and still do. I think in the New York-New Joisey area it's officially "youse guys" but I'm basing that on tv shows.

"Hello all! I always appreciated your help. Why would someone say that to you guys?"

Long long story, much too long for here, and since I'm not a clinical psychologist I'm not even going to try and get into someone's head or motives or the games people play.

But that's just one of the posts that have survived. You should read the ones that Ebay removed.

Hang in there. I lurked for months before I mustered up the courage to post. In time you'll learn how the threads are organized and how the features work.

Hello again, this is a puzzle. The bag appears to be a basic bag, the seller says had a metal tag that fell off? I don't know if there is any way to authenticate without marks? It does look like thick early leather. Would be cool if it was the real deal. Thoughts?
Thanks as always!

I'm not comfortable authenticating it without markings or imprints of any kind. There's no other way to do it since there's NO trademark or other legal protection that prevents a manufacturer from copying another manufacturer's styles or designs as long as they don't copy their trademarks or logos. Anyone can use thick leather or hire competent leatherworkers who can stitch straight seams, and hardware items like Talon or YKK zippers were available to anyone who wanted to buy them.

We can only say that something looks similar to a Coach and that there aren't any obvious red flags, but that wouldn't stand up in a court of law as proof. It's the buyer's decision if they want to take a chance. But I would NEVER advise buying it for resale.

The seller says "I believe this is a vintage Coach Convertible Clutch that originally had a metal Coach tag that fell off." That's an opinion though, not a statement of fact. If she had the actual tag it would help solidify her belief.

And it's a "Basic Bag" style, not a "Convertible Clutch" style. Even though the measurements don't help much (both styles in their early versions had similar measurements side to side and top to bottom), Convertible Clutches have flaps and turnlocks.

More opinions are welcome.
