I recently became friends with a person who frequents thrift stores, and when I mentioned my growing growing interest in Coach, she let me take a look at several of her bags. I was wondering about these three in particular and asked if I could check them out here. Any input appreciated!

Serial (as best as I could make it out): J8H-9829

I was especially curious about this one, because the leather felt the best of the three, but I remember reading about that serial being a red flag. The 'H' also looked weirdly wide.

Thank you!
Only the first one is authentic. The leather is thinner because it is a Soho style (lightweights).

This is what I was following since the bag isn't on an auction site.

If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements

Item Name:Coach bag (style unknown)
Link: N/a (Thrift store purchase)
Measurements: 13.5 X 9.5
Creed stamp photo included (no serial number present)

Hello all,

I hope I am posting correctly!

I picked up a "Coach" bag in a thrift store today as I was drawn to the colour, but reading through the pages here, I don't think that it is authentic. I notice on the creed stamp that the words "materials" and "trimmed" are quite close together, which doesn't seem right.

I know very little about Coach bags and would very much appreciate any feedback. Could anyone with an experienced eye please have a look?

Sorry, it's fake. None of the details are the same as they would be in a genuine Coach. Take it back to the store and insist on a full refund, selling counterfeit items is against US Federal laws.

The hardware is wrong, the Carriage logo's details are wrong, the zipper pulls were never used by Coach, the fonts used in the creed stamp aren't right and the patch isn't even cut straight, the lining material and printed pattern are wrong, and there's no serial number on the creed patch but any creed using that same wording with the name of the country where it was made as part of the creed should have a serial number. There's really nothing accurate about it.

Thank you SO much, Hyacinth. As soon as I got it home I started noting things that seemed... off, but I'm not familiar enough to recognize the specifics. I will go back to the thrift store tomorrow, let them know it is fake and return it. I very much appreciate your response and expertise!

Edit: oops, I thought I replied quoting your response. My apologies!

Here on the Coach subforum, we will authenticate nearly anything and it's not a problem that there's no link to show the listing. But we just want to know.

However in order to authenticate a bag, we need to see pictures of the actual item you have in your possession. The pictures you've posted may be a bag that looks similar to what you have but those pictures are/were found on the internet.

The first set of collage pictures are from a listing on Rakuten, a Japanese ebay-type site.
The next picture showing the front of the bag is from an Amazon and may be a Coach stock photo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AHO6ZX0?tag=sportevery-20

Please post pictures of the actual bag you have in your possession.

Bump. Let me know if you need more information, thanks!

Getting pictures of the little brown “made in Vietnam” tag is nearly impossible without a third hand. It does have the horse and carriage logo on the reverse side. I’m not finding any sort of a style number tag, but it does have a serial number on the creed.

Also, if it is real, does anyone remember what the name of this color is? It’s too purple to be oxblood, but too red to be magenta.

Let me know if you need additional photos or info, thanks!
