This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:

Thank you and be safe!

Thank you! I'm so excited for this bag!
Thanks to all the Authenticators that are promoting the integrity of the brand and the vintage bags. I'm a newbie to this forum. What is the best way for those of us taking advantage of your knowledge to contribute to the forum?

The best way to contribute is to read and learn first, and always ask about a Coach's authenticity before you buy it rather than after.

The black one is genuine but the other photos you posted are all too small. When you post a link we can check the actual listing if it's on a site that allows it. Since you posted a listing number I was able to find it in Ebay's Completed listings. There's no need to copy and repost the photos if they're in a listing we can see.

The black one is a genuine Pocket Purse 9755. The creed and serial number on the brown one aren't readable, we need a clearer photo when you get the bag.
Thank you so much, Hyacinth! Noted and will follow on process. And I will take better photos of the brown one and post when I get it. Thanks again!

Hi, all. I just found this forum after purchasing a Coach bag from Poshmark - I realize now that this is the backward way to do it, but live and learn. I’m new here and could only find a “reply” option as opposed to an option for a new post, so I apologize if I’m doing this wrong. I purchased the following:

Vintage Coach Green Leather Satchel, serial number 0411-314:
https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-RARE-80s-Coach-green-leather-satchel-5e3712a12e7c2f04d818f8f5

The seller claims it’s from the 1980s, which is why the serial number appears as it does. Is there a way to truly authenticate a purse from that time period? From what I’ve read, the serial numbers are unique to each bag so I’m unsure how to determine authenticity. Any help would be appreciated. At least the site where I purchased allows returns if something is shown to be counterfeit. Thanks!

That bag is absolutely gorgeous! Coach is making a new version of it this year but I think the new one is a bit smaller. You can contribute by posting on some other threads. We would love to see more pictures of the Quincey when you get it on the Vintage chat thread. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/vintage-coach-photos-chat.857690/

Great! I will do that! I checked out the green Quincey reboot on Coach.com (I want) and it does look scaled down when comparing the catalogue measurements between the two. Thanks again!

There's a discussion about the reboot on a few threads. Check out these threads, particularly the more recent posts near the end.

Hello authenticators. I've been shopping for my personal collection and came across the below. The creed isn't left-aligned and it's hard to read but I'm not seeing the country it was made in.

*Notes that it MEASURES APPROX. 9.5 X 8 IN and 'AUTHENTICATED BY ******************'.

Is this authentic COACH? Thank you!

Item: Ramble maybe?
Listing number: 85949981
Seller: Berwyn, PA Goodwill
Link: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/85949981

IF it's genuine it's much too new to show a name of the country of manufacture in the creed, so I'm not sure how old you think it is. Again, IF it's genuine it's much too new for me to authenticate so more authenticators' opinions are needed.

The serial number looks to me as if it indicates it was just made in 2019, unless I'm reading it wrong and it's 2013 which historically is much more likely (the creed does match another Ramblers Legacy I found from 2013), and the 5-digit style number is almost completely hidden. I definitely wouldn't recommend bidding with part of the serial number hidden, especially with shopGoodwill's track record of not properly authenticating their items. There are far too many fakes slipping into their inventory. The authenticating service they say was used also has a very shaky track record with Coach items.

ETA - This is the listing I'm comparing it to but it can't really be a completely perfect comp without seeing the entire serial number:

We don't recommend you try to do your own authentications. Coach fakes can be very accurate, and having a "correct" serial number is no proof at all that the bag is genuine. What's to stop counterfeiters from copying a serial number? If it was that easy to do your own authentications just by "verifying" a serial number there wouldn't be almost 36 THOUSAND posts in this thread alone, plus at least one and maybe more archived group of posts from a previous thread which if I'm remembering correctly has at least another 20 thousand posts. That also holds for ALL Coach bags and serial numbers, not just the ones with all-number serial numbers. A serial number just by itself can't prove anything.

The Station Bag you're asking about is genuine, and the serial number has nothing to do with it. It's the DETAILS of the creed stamp and serial number stamping that help prove it's authentic, not the number itself. The bag was actually made in the early 1990s.

ETA - and as for your statement that "the site where I purchased allows returns if something is shown to be counterfeit." I wouldn't depend on Poshmark cheerfully giving you a refund just because you say a purchase is counterfeit. Not only does Poshmark close their eyes to fakes and to almost every single report from members that a listing is for a counterfeit item, but this forum and others for other brands has dozens of histories of buyers who got stuck with fakes and had to fight tooth and nail to get their money back! Most of the time PM flat out refuse to accept that something's fake, and they claim to be guided by usually un-named "authenticators" who may be just sellers on the site and are in no way qualified to authenticate, or even by for-pay services with horrible track records when it comes to Coach products. Searching this thread for posts about Poshmark and fakes might make you realize that you're putting your faith in a site that doesn't deserve it at all.

Not only do most if not all of the authenticators here NOT recommend Poshmark and say so right up front, but one of them won't even authenticate items from the site because she refuses to give PM any kind of tacit approval even if the item is genuine because of their terrible record in refusing to remove fakes and making it incredibly hard to get your money back if you get stuck with one.

I've run a simple search of just the Coach forums here using the search term "fake Poshmark". There are 25 pages of posts shown (25 pages is the most the forum can show at one time) with 20 posts per page and they only go back to 2016. There will be a lot more if you go back even deeper.

There's also a very long thread in the Ebay forum dedicated to Poshmark, pros and cons:

Wow - thank you so much for the detailed response. Obviously I’m glad to hear the bag is genuine but, beyond that, you’ve given me a valuable education. I’ve only recently become interested in vintage Coach and it’s great to find such a passionate community surrounding it. Thank you again for taking the time to review my post and caution me about PM. I’m confidant that you’ve save me a lot of trouble!

If that bag was authenticated by ANYONE without a full clear and legible picture of the creed AND serial number, then that company or authenticator is bound to make mistakes.

Whether a mistake was made on this one, I have no idea but with the blurry creed, it's impossible to know exactly what the serial number (year, plant aornd style) says!

If you can request a clear, well-focused and straight on creed picture showing legible text and serial number, that might help.

Here's a comp, FWIW:
