Hello there! I'm new to posting but I've been visiting this forum for a few months since being handed down six Coach bags from my family. This bag I'm posting in particular is peculiar to me. There are a few discrepancies for the noobie that I am. For instance, I recognize this is a station bag but I can't date it. I've photographed the creed to my best ability but there is no serial stamped in underneath of the creed. Also the metals are concerning. The turn lock and the top handle hardware are brass toned but the side d-rings are silver toned and the strap that I was given with the bag is silver toned. The strap is one half inch wide. The leather feels okay to me but on the sides where the d-rings are I'm not sure if the threading is worn from age or poorly constructed. I'd appreciate your help. If this bag is fake I'll destroy it and move on but if it's real I may like to carry it or pass it along to someone who can love it more.

If this bag is fake I'll destroy it and move on but if it's real I may like to carry it or pass it along to someone who can love it more.

The mixed metals and poor stitching on the leather mounting tab are both problems, but the real problem I'm seeing is the creed and the LACK of a serial number, both are huge red flags. Take a really close look at the creed wording, specifically the word "scrAtches". The letter A seems to be missing and that's only found on fakes and is absolute proof that it's not genuine. Also, genuine bags from that period indicated by that creed wording would not have had the word "markings" split between two lines of text and hyphenated.

There are other problems like the shape of the top handle, but the misspelling and bad punctuation (by Coach's standards at the time anyway) should be enough proof. If you destroy it, save the strap and the turnlock unless the turnlock plate that the prongs clamp around has indentations for the prongs.

(To bring out the letters of a badly worn creed stamp or serial number, sometimes it helps to take a very light-colored powder like a pale eyeshadow or highlighter, or even baby powder or something similar and very lightly brush it over the words or numbers that are too faint to read. The powder settles into the indentations and when you gently wipe the residue off, the excess comes off but the indented or stamped areas usually show up more clearly. Afterwards the leather can be cleaned off with a damp but not soaking wet washcloth. Try it and see if it says "SCRTCHES".)

All the things you mentioned are red flags and if you zoom in you will see the word After scars reads SCRTCHES. Can you take a pic of the back of the oval piece and post please?

Hi authenticators. whenever time allows..

item: not sure about the name of this bag
seller: unfortunately I dont have it. it was a gift from a friend
comment:
-it's my first time seeing a serial number with no dash. read it in the sale guides that it does happen but it would be good to check anyway.

Genuine, it's one of the Plaza Bags from around 1989-1990 but since you didn't include measurements I can't say for sure which one it is.

Aaaargh! I had a nice long answer all typed out including "scrtches" and "mark-ings", and the top handle and advice on how to bring out the stamping more clearly and it's gone. Nuts!

Thank you for your promptness. Everything did post up a bit so I was able to read your longer reply. Much gratitude! I will post the oval piece! Idk if that photo is clear enough, I have to flash a light in the bag to photograph it.

So weird that someone would want to go through the trouble of faking this bag!

After catching all of the reasons that the previous bag was fake I pulled out my other Coaches that I'm unsure of now. I have all of the creeds for anyone who can help. So grateful!

Apologies for the sloppy photos, I tried my best but my phone is old.

A creed by itself can't prove a bag as authentic. We need to see if all other details of the bag are correct.

But a creed CAN prove a bag as fake when there's something invalid about the creed. The bag with the J8Y creed is fake and more pictures aren't needed.

But for the bags with H7C-9802 and G1K-8819, we need to see the rest of the bags to verify whether they're genuine.

Thank you very much! So I'll dispose of the little one as well! I took those photos of the other two bags.

Hi everyone,

Could I check this school bag (?) I’m a bit worried by the silver hardware on the handle. Thank you!

The bag is authentic. It's hard to tell if the hardware on the handle is silver or if it's the lighting that makes it appear that way. It's possible that there might have been a repair and/or replacement of the hardware.

You might want to keep some of the hardware, leather (if real leather) and strap from the fake for rehabs. (I don't do rehab but others will advise what to keep) before disposing of it.

The two bags are authentic.
9802 is Equestrian zip made in 1997.
8819 was made in 2001 but I don't but I don't know the name.

Thank you so much! Sorry if this is asking for too much but do you think these bags are good candidates to rehab? I've never done it before but I would love to learn.
I don't see any major problems with any of the bags. I think they would all be relatively easy rehabs. Black is easiest, but you'd have to okay without a strap. The Chrystie has some deep scratches on the back that won't come out. The brown Regina looks to be in really good condition. I think it would rehab easily.

Solid! I don't mind giving away anything that others might use if anything is usable.
