Thank you for this information. I'm kind of surprised that it is that "recent". I wasn't aware that they were making these heritage styles that late. I tend to associate that time period with the C Signature pattern more than the full leather. Love to learn, that's what the purse forum is about. Thank you again for taking the time to let me know and have a good night.

They've never completely stopped making the classic leather styles until within the last10 years, although they came close a few times, and the ones being made now aren't the same as what was made 20-plus years ago. Some of the names are the same but details and many of us would say quality has changed. To get the really classic glove-tanned cowhide you have to go back past the very early 2000s. The last of them probably were made in the Costa Rica plant in 2004, but many had serial numbers showing a 1994 year code so they're very hard to find. The plant was also operating on a shoestring budget, short of equipment and preparing to close.

Here's an example of one of the last of the classic non-China leather bags from Costa Rica from 2004 but with a 1994 year code, click on the thumbnails:

This one has my head scratching. Originally there was no pictures of the inside. I assumed it was fake based on the buckle but to confirm I asked the seller for the Creed pic. I thought it would a common fake I could easily recognize. But this one has me surprised! Have you seen another fake or genuine bag with this serial number before?

Nope, never . It's a total fake. The condition of the creed stamping looks like someone found a discarded stamp in a garbage bin. Brass buckles on classic leather bags were never stamped "COACH" at least I don't remember ever seeing any, and I don't think a genuine Coach factory's serial number stamp was even able to stamp a 3-number+4-letter format. Up until 2005 they never used letters in the style number half of the serial so the stamps only had numbers on that side. Fake Janice's Legacy?

ETA - Here are a few of the photos in case the listing from janfran62 disappears:

If you go back and read recent posts about indented turnlocks, you should find that I always say that indented turnlocks on a purse or handbag indicate that it might be fake. I don't say anything about briefcases! In fact we've mentioned indented turnlocks being used on briefcases starting in 1996 before, there are posts from May of this year that discuss the new briefcase turnlock design AND the different shape and when they came into use. The earliest serial number I've found with the squared-off turnlock and the indentations on the back so far is October of 1995 but 1996 is probably when it came into official use.

Pay attention to what we say and if you read something like the above example or another common "rule" such as "Coach has never made HANDBAGS (or PURSES or wallets or briefcases) in Korea" that's exactly what we mean. It doesn't say that Coach never made anything in Korea, just handbags, purses, wallets, and briefcases. They DID make a few clothing items and apparently some luggage pieces that were samples or pre-production designs there, but so far we've never found any Korean-made or stamped examples of the specific items I mentioned.

Thank you Hyacinth!!!

Good morning authenticators - as time allows, would you look at this one?

Item: VINTAGE COACH BECKET ZIP SHOULDER BAG #9920 RED LEATHER NEW OLD STOCK W/TAG
Listing number: 123953604402
Seller: nestfeathers56
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-CO...-RED-LEATHER-NEW-OLD-STOCK-W-TAG/123953604402
Comments: Was Becket part of the lightweights?

Genuine, style 9920 from 1993.

And no, it wasn't from the Lightweight or Soho lines. Those style numbers usually started with 40** or 41**.

Authentic.

ETA: The first listing (Paris bag) from

Hello All! I'm not sure if I should post the following on this thread. Please correct me and direct me to where I should post if not here. Thank you! I have been reading the Salesarea guide trying to find out from which year to which year Coach made their bags in New York City but I am unable to find out any year information. I have a few of these bags with made in NYC on the creed. I understand some people collect exclusively these bags. Thank you in advance for your reply!
