Both are authentic, but the second one isn't a court bag. It's a Quincy bag.

Hello All! I do not have a request to authenticate, rather just a question, I hope you don't mind. While thrifting, I saw a 5180 briefcase, Metropolitan I think, and the plate behind the turn lock had the indentations. If I understand correctly, the indentations indicate a counterfeit bag. Does this also hold true for the briefcases? Thank you in advance for your reply!

First is a genuine Willis bag from 1998

Second is NOT a Court Bag. The details are completely wrong from the skinny sewn-on strap to the lack of a top handle. The style number is 9919 which isn't the style number of a Court Bag. As I said a few posts before this, don't expect sellers to know the correct name of what they're selling because many of them DON'T.

This is a genuine Quincy Bag from 1995 and measures about 9x7x3 inches, Coach lists the non-removable strap as 50 inches long. The seller should eliminate some of those less than useful details in the Item Specifics bag description and include the measurements instead.

No, it doesn't hold for briefcases made after a certain date.

Thanks for your response. I was looking at this other listing and was wondering if it’s genuine. Weird question but do genuine bags have a tendency to look more used? (Because it’s a real vintage bag). Or do you all see an equal amount of both? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/352828981182

If you go back and read recent posts about indented turnlocks, you should find that I always say that indented turnlocks on a purse or handbag indicate that it might be fake. I don't say anything about briefcases! In fact we've mentioned indented turnlocks being used on briefcases starting in 1996 before, there are posts from May of this year that discuss the new briefcase turnlock design AND the different shape and when they came into use. The earliest serial number I've found with the squared-off turnlock and the indentations on the back so far is October of 1995 but 1996 is probably when it came into official use.

Pay attention to what we say and if you read something like the above example or another common "rule" such as "Coach has never made HANDBAGS (or PURSES or wallets or briefcases) in Korea" that's exactly what we mean. It doesn't say that Coach never made anything in Korea, just handbags, purses, wallets, and briefcases. They DID make a few clothing items and apparently some luggage pieces that were samples or pre-production designs there, but so far we've never found any Korean-made or stamped examples of the specific items I mentioned.

There's really no way to answer the second part of your question. How a bag looks depends on how it was used and cared for. I would think that older owners of genuine vintage Coaches took better care of them because they paid more for them and were raised to take care of nice things, but that's just my experience and my opinion. Or maybe the genuine bags lasted a lot longer and had more time to develop all those signs of use. Fakes in general fall apart a lot sooner, there are a lot more fakes percentage-wise with things like frayed or broken straps, broken zippers, torn stitches, etc than there are genuine Coaches especially with classic (pre-China) and vintage bags.

The Court Bag is genuine.

Right, I phrased that badly. I was just hoping for an easier tell, but it seems that fakes are so ubiquitous, you just have to be very knowledgeable to tell ! Thanks again for the very detailed explaination

No Creed patch according to seller. Just the made in tag:
View attachment 4574520

It may or may not have a white label with production numbers but it seems okay. If you buy and receive it and have doubts, come back.

I just wanted to say that my daughter has an extra large wristlet from this exact same Campbell line (same Campbell line, same fabric, same color). ... I remember well when that short-lived Campbell line came out because we bought multiple things from it. ...... Anyway, I just checked that wristlet, and its "made in China" tag is identical to the "made in China" tag that houseof999 posted above. It's that same semi-translucent type of plastic. Daughter's wristlet was also deemed "too small" by Coach to warrant a creed (as I know Coach often decided in the old days), so I checked for those white tags with style numbers they've started putting in, and it did *not* have one. So in other words, daughter's wristlet from this same line, was also considered "too small" to warrant a creed, and this particular line was apparently before Coach started putting in those white tags with the style numbers.

Hope it was ok to add that. (And I apologize that it took me so many hours to even think to check. Duh.)

Good evening all,

coach brown fletcher - 3.jpg coach brown fletcher - 1.jpg I am writing to have the following bag authenticated.

Item: Coach Fletcher Brown bag
Listing number: None—it is in my possession.
Seller: None
Link: No Link.
Comments: The measurements are approximately 10" x 7 1/2" (high). The depth of the bottom panel is about 4".

B7M-4150 is the number under the creed. The creed says it was made in Costa Rica. Please let me know if you need other photos. Thank you very much.

Hello again, can I have the below looked at please.
Item -Patricia's Legacy
Link-https://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Vintage-Red-Leather-Flap-Messenger-Crossbody-Bag-Made-in-USA-/283580032664?_ul=NZ
Seller-Bricklimits
Comments-Love the colour, looks ok condition wise to me...am aware of the penmark..no hangtag again..
Thank you all again for looking out for us.

I believe it's genuine as long as the hardware is actually brass-color and not silver. The photos look over-lighted so maybe that's washing out the actual hardware color. Silver-color or nickel hardware wasn't introduced on most handbags including the Patricia's Legacy until 1998 so seeing it on a handbag from late 1995 would be a problem.
