Item: White Trail Bag
Seller: shopgoodwill
Photos: (album, swipe to see more)

Measurements approx 10” x 7” x 4”
Comments: Shopgoodwill sent the Entrupy certificate but I was reading somewhere on this thread that they can be wrong sometimes. I posted about this bag in the rehab thread about dunking it, and while it was drying I was looking at it closer, it had some things that made me question whether it was authentic. But I know very well I could be wrong (or right :hrmm:). Thank you in advance for your help!

It's fake. Even if it weren't, it wouldn't be a trail bag! Wrong style name.

Ugh. Goodwill/Entrupy... Thanks for your help!
OMG! For those keeping score, here's another Entrupy error.

@CPSE - Do you mind posting a picture of the Entrupy certificate so I can save it in my "Entrupy mistakes" file?

Sure, here it is:

I guess it was my fault for assuming it was a trail bag (saw it in the listing title). Lesson learned about trusting Entrupy too. But the details definitely looked off to me when I looked closer. If you guys don’t mind telling me, what were the things that showed it is fake? (Or should I post/ask it in a different thread)? Thanks again for your help!

Thank you. Goodwill and Entrupy really need to be made aware of the mistakes that are being made. Both Goodwill and Entrupy are losing any (what little) credibility they may have had and are only convincing those of us who authenticate that AI cannot do a good job!

The mistake wasn't on your part. Many buyers and sellers don't know the names of styles they buy or sell. They like a size, style, color and fit of a bag and buy for those reasons!

But the problems with the bag that ENTRUPY wrongly authenticated has several issues and also further shows that just because a bag looks like the style it's supposed to be doesn't mean that it's authentic.
  • The serial prefix, L5S means that the bag claims to have been made in 1995. The text of the creed states that it was made in the US but "S" is a plant code for a factory in China and S wasn't operating in 1995.
  • The back of the female part of the turnlock has indentations, common on fakes but rarely seen on genuine Coach and on very few styles. And those styles don't have the type of turnlock as seen on this bag.
  • "Solid brass" on the buckles is another red flag.
