Thanks for taking the time to explain this, Hyacinth.
I only own vintage bags and so I want to find a genuine tag for my new (to me) green station bag that’s missing one. I can’t find tags on the coach site, which is why I’m looking on eBay. Who knew it’d be so tough...! But, with what you’ve noted above, instead of looking online maybe I’ll try asking at a coach store to see if they will sell me one then.. Thanks so much for your help!!!
For a station bag, you'd probably want a leather one. (I didn't see the one you'd asked about today. Yesterday, that lot listing was for metal ones.)

But finding a seller with a green leather hang tag in the right shade of green is going to be a challenge.

To post a link to a listing for which you have the seller's ID and/or the item number, it's easy.

The seller ID, link to listing, item number and all other info related to the transaction is in your email (that ebay sends when you bid, purchase and pay) as well as in your "my ebay."

With the item number, copy and paste it into the search box. Since it's an ended listing, you have to scroll down the page and on the left side, there's "completed" and "sold." Click and it'll take you to the completed page, from which you click on the listing and copy the URL (link). The seller ID is in the listing on the right side near the top.

thank you so much!! I think I figured it out. Lets see:

You could ask on the Coach Rescue and Rehab thread if they could look out for one for you. Amazing bunch on that thread as is here.

Am I wasting my time looking for a replacement tag on eBay? Seems like I haven’t come across any authentic ones at all...

There ARE a lot of fakes. But another problem is that often it's hard to tell fake from real. There are no details except the font, and while a bad font can prove something's fake, a fake can have a font close enough to real that we can't tell the difference. We don't even know what kind of bag the hangtag came from so how do we know what to compare it to? The fewer details that we can pin down to a specific style or time period, the harder it usually is to authenticate, and that includes small items like wallets, mini skinnys, etc. They're often harder to authenticate than handbags.

Another problem is that some sellers take the hangtags off genuine (and even fake) bags to sell them separately, hoping to sell 2 items instead of one by forcing the handbag buyer to pay extra for a hangtag that should have been part of the bag. That's cheating the buyer and we don't appreciate sellers who do it.

Keep a few known genuine solid metal tags, brass and silver-color, and use those instead of risking buying a fake leather one.

ETA - If Coach still gives out free hangtags, you may want to look into that.

Call customer service at coach.com and ask for a free replacement hangtag. Give them the style number of the bag and the color of the bag and hardware. They will probably send a metal hangtag that matches the hardware. Sometimes it takes a long time for it to come in the mail, but it will be genuine and free. You can also bring the bag to your local Coach store and it they have something suitable they will usually give it to you.

I’m ok with a metal tag and that’s what I was trying to buy. I figured it probably won’t be possible to completely match a leather tag.. thanks for the advice!

That’s a great idea. Thank you Narnanz!

I read somewhere on this forum that coach doesn’t mail tags to customers located Canada, but I suppose it can’t hurt to give them a call. I don’t have the bag yet (trying to be proactive here, lol) but yes I do plan to take it to a store after it gets its bath. Thanks katev.

I'm not sure if this is still true, but in the past when someone called to get a hangtag they would sometimes be asked by the CS rep for the serial number of the bag, so have that handy, just in case.

Sorry for the blurry pic but here is a vintage green pocket bag that I rehabbed that was missing the hangtag. I got a free metal replacement from Coach and I really like the way it looks. Even if I found a genuine, original, green leather tag I think I would prefer the gold tag.

Hello! I found this bag at goodwill and would like to see if it’s authentic.

Item: Black flap crossbody

Comments: Please let me know if you would like to see more photos. Thank you again for your help!

The gold tag really sets off the hardware too, I think it's a great look. After all, a classic deserves a nice piece of "jewelry"

Good luck, I hope you get one that works well for you!
