So all these sites do not care about selling counterfeit items, they must know is against the law. How they get away with it? Only if the "brand" report them?

Etsy removed one of my listings once, because I mentioned a name brand on the title, (not that it was, but that it could work with XX). They sent me a message from their legal department, saying that they had received notice of the Company XX, to the effect that I broke copyright laws, etc... I had seen other people doing the same thing yet their listings remain, when I wrote back to Etsy just to ask why mine and not the rest, they totally ignored me.
If the copyright holder sends them a notice, they'll act. Not so much if someone just uses the report button.

Some people got their listings removed on ebay for mentioning the item had velcro closures, when it was actually a similar closure but not made by velcro. Some brands are more vigilant at protecting their copyright. When I worked for Levi's, we were told to report any time someone used the word "Levi's" in an ad when they really meant another brand of jeans. They said that if they didn't protect their copyright, they could lose ownership of the name.

As vigilant as Velcro is Gerber and use of "onesies" for one piece body suits. If the item isn't made by Gerber, the listing can't use Gerber's trademarked "onesies" name.

A number of years ago, I had some Juicy Couture one piece suits on Bonz and the listings were put into a holding pattern because Gerber reported them. I simply changed the wording and the listings were reinstated.

I've never had anyone in a thrift store remove an item when I told them it was fake.
I haven’t either. But going back about 12 years ago, there was a non profit consignment shop locally with proceeds going to a local service organization. It was staffed by volunteers. They had an awful pleather fake with the NT- xxxx reg # and they were asking $80 for it. At that time I was learning a little off the eBay guides. I politely brought this to the attention of a volunteer. I had no idea how this would go over. I ended up discussing it with the manager who asked me why I thought that it was fake. She was receptive but had concerns over how to be diplomatic to the consignor. I told her rather bluntly that there was no way they could provide a receipt for it and to ask them for one. I told her I guaranteed her that the person will say it was a gift or was her sister’s etc. Then I said , is it fair for some hardworking woman to come and think she is treating herself to a Coach? And it’s fake? Lastly I told her to do a search on the internet with the NT registration number and information should come up about it being fake. She was an older woman so I laid out a case for her as best I could.
When I went back a few weeks later, it had a tag on it that said “Coach style” $15 dollars. I was dissapointed it was there, but at least no one was going to get a consignment fee off $80 dollars.

I used to shop at Second Time Around, a now-out of business consignment store.

They were the only store that ever removed fakes and returned them to the consignors.

Every time I've tried to tell them items are fake at thrift stores, I'm told, "we don't sell them as ___fill in brand name ____
so we are okay with the law."

I've called them on it, explained the law, described the horrors of the counterfeit industry, etc. and the only time they do anything is when they have a fake LV for $300 or a fake Coach for $60 and they reduce the price.

I've been careful not to piss them off because I find some wonderful bargains when they also don't recognize when something is the real deal.

Comments: I bought this bag and it doesn't seem real. No heat stamp. Thin canvas. Thin lining. Tag is J0668.

It could just be an outlet bag? I was expecting a legacy bag from 2009. :) I didn't look close enough and was on my phone. Can you tell if it is a replica? I have a few pictures if you need them. Thank you so much. Leigh

It's authentic. I don't know what you mean by a heat stamp. It was made in 2006 as part of the Legacy line. I don't remember a 2009 Legacy line. It was made for boutiques.

There was a handful of styles in 2009 that Coach gave the name "Legacy" to, but I doubt if they're remembered by that description by many buyers especially since there was no single style theme holding the line together and half the items on the webpage don't even use the Legacy name - mouse over the thumbnails for the names:
http://web.archive.org/web/20090320...t3Id=23266&tier=3&expand1=23259&expand2=23270
None of them are Signature styles either.

Even though the Legacy moniker has been given to at least half a dozen lines over the years going back to at least 1994, "Legacy" to most Coach buyers means the Leather and Signature bags, most of them with the then-new Legacy Stripe linings, that were introduced in 2006 as part of Coach's 65th Anniversary year. There were quite a few Sig C styles in the 2006 Legacy line but none in 2009. The styling of the bag being questioned is pure 2006 Legacy and it's definitely genuine. I'm not sure what the poster was expecting.

Here are several Legacy webpages from 2006 including the one being questioned, bottom left corner of the second page:

I think what she means by the missing "heat stamp" is that the creed text and serial number aren't impressed into the leather but rather, are in gold ink.

The gold script is correct for this bag and the bag is authentic.

Thank you all. What I was referring to was the COACH impression/heat stamp that is on the bottom of the side of the bag. All my old previous vachetta leather legacy coach bags had them. And they all had pure brass hardware. This one was just a little different much lighter also. Also, my other bags had the F063 or JO669.

I'm glad it's authentic. Thank you so much for your replies.
