Purely for my own education, I didn't think coach used the number 1 during this time so not to be confused with letter I. Is this an older bag or am I completely confused. Thanks!

The number "1" really CAN'T be eliminated to prevent possible confusion. Not only is it 10 percent of the available numbers 0 thru 9, but it is usually used for important details such as year codes where there's no acceptable substitute. I worked in the retail end of the auto industry for over 20 years, and the number "1" was NEVER replaced or skipped over in details like production codes and especially automobile serial numbers (VINs). How could you code or identify all those millions of vehicles made in years that included the number "1"? It's just not possible! And it's the same thing with Coach serial numbers that include date and year codes.

The letter "i" is a different situation and unless it's necessary for spelling out an actual word, it CAN be skipped in situations where just a string of numbers and letters is required. My memory is a bit hazy after all those years, but I'm pretty sure that "i" wasn't used in vehicle serial numbers, but that was almost 20 years ago, and times may have changed. What can sometimes cause confusion with Coach serials is that sometimes it's hard to figure out if you're looking at an "i" or a "1", some of the stamps were ambiguous and could be used for either one. And there's always the 100 percent always-fake serial number prefix "BIN-", or is it B1N-"? Just assume they're BOTH fake and you'll be right 100 percent of the time.

Also, Is there a reputable authentication service anyone can recommend for another brand bag? Ive seen a couple mentioned here that don't sound so good.

You could try asking at the forum for that brand, or PMing one of the acknowledged experts for a recommendation if no one wants to recommend or UN-recommend an authenticating service in public. Maybe BeenBurned might have some advice?
What is (or are) the brands? Is there an "authenticate this" subforum here on TPF for that brand? If you can get a thumbs up (or down) first before spending money for a pro, that might help save you on paying for authentication of a fake.

If you prefer, you can PM me.

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.

    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller:
    Link:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
  • Authenticators are not required to answer every request and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
  • Please note that comments on price and condition are NOT permitted.
  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests should be posted in this thread.
  • Should one of your items be questioned in this thread, you are welcome to provide additional pictures or materials supporting its authenticity.

Thank you for the measurements.

It's a Becket Zip, number 9920 from the early 1990s.

Thanks to all the Purse Whisperers!!!! You rock - stay Blessed (:

Thank you, @BeenBurned and @whateve ! I haven't been shopping on Etsy for Coach (yet) but dang I'm tempted to add that to my repertoire...

Just be careful, as you should be on every site, there are quite a few woefully ignorant and even downright deceptive sellers there and Etsy's record for removing fakes is as bad as Poshmark's. Have EVERYTHING authenticated.

Its for a Marc Jacobs bag, but Im not sure if there is an active authenticator over there. I posted a bag in April and haven't heard back, and I have different one now that Im really not sure about. I will do a little more digging and then take your suggestion, if I come up empty.
Thank you for your advice!

Just to ease your mind about the "irregular" stamp - I've seen dozens of those stamps and have never found ANYTHING wrong with any of the bags. Don't worry about it. The only "problem" I can see with this one is that the creed stitches are a bit angled instead of perfectly straight.
Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.

Hi! Could you please authenticate this bag in my possession?

Name: signature stripe drawstring large carryall
Dimension: 40x27x15

I'm unsure because this one has no made in tag, while another bag that I have all have made in tag. The lining is also slightly stiff. Here are the details. Thank you very much!

I’m unable to find much info in online. It’s a “cherry Bowery” measuring 7 wide, 2.5 deep and 5.5” tall with a 50” gold chain strap. I’ve just never seen the creed referred to as a storypatch. There is another coach tag inside29D66B2E-D9D9-4E3D-AF44-686338115674.jpegthat reads made in Vietnam on the reverse. No other tags inside bag. Thanks in advance!

Most of the time if a bag has a well-stamped creed patch that includes a full serial number with all the factory codes, it's only necessary to post pictures of the front, back, one side, the creed patch and serial number, the large round magnetic snap and what's stamped on it if it has one, and a photo from above showing the inside. Not all newer bags had Made In tags. This one is genuine and was made for the Factory Stores 5 years ago in 2014 in one of their Chinese plants. I don't have the name in my files.

There's no way to authenticate it with just those photos. All the "cartoon" lines - Disney, Peanuts, etc, are HIGHLY faked and I personally would hesitate to buy any of them on the secondary market unless I knew the seller and trusted them completelty. If the seller didn't supply a clear photo of the creed, please take one when you receive the coin purse and post it here. Maybe BeenBurned or Whateve can advise on what other photos they need to see.
The coin purse arrived and I have attached pictures. It was hard to get a good picture of the tiny tag but I think it says made in Vietnam.
