  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:

    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item

  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

The date code in the one in the listing is October 1996. The Fall 1996 catalog, as well as the other 1996 catalogs, lists the available colors as Mahogany, Black, British Tan, Navy and Red. The Early Spring 1997 book lists the same colors.

Since the seller descibes a bag with an October 1996 date code as "1980s" it's a safe assumption that they can't be depended on to know the correct color description either.
Hmm. This is helpful info, thank you. But it's hard for me to judge what color it is. I have Mahogany purses, and they seem darker than this, but they've been cleaned and conditioned and pics I've seen of British tan seem more golden than this. Do you have a catalog photo of the swatches from that time period? Thanks!

Colors in catalog photos and swatches aren't dependable, and neither are many colors in online listings. If you buy it, wait until it's cleaned and conditioned before trying to figure out the color. My money's on Mahogany.

Hello and good morning to all!
I was hoping to get the following item authenticated:

I've never seen one quite like this one and would love to get expert opinions before I place a bid.

Hi, I'm new to Coach purses but found myself looking at quite a lot of them to find a "new" secondhand leather purse. In my research, the style of purses I've narrowed down have left me confused. After looking at the archives of the Coach website, I'm not sure half of these are legit despite there being many iterations online with the same serial/style numbers. :( So I need your help. Sorry for so many items and questions!

Item 1: Coach Hamptons Leather Demi Handbag Wristlet Baguette Pochette 7542 Black
Listing number: 382971153561
Seller: thebargainprincess
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Hamp...let-Baguette-Pochette-7542-Black/382971153561
Comments: I think this one is not fake?. I really like this style bag.

Item 2: COACH Black Leather Buckle Flap Soulder / Crossbody Bag F04?-7540
Listing number: 223502293789
Seller: awamichelle
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Black-Leather-Buckle-Flap-Soulder-Crossbody-Bag-7540/223502293789
Comments: I've confirmed style 7542 is legit based on the coach website archives, but could not find anything about style 7540. Is this a real bag? Slightly larger, shoulder/crossbody version of style 7542?

Item 3: Coach Hampton Brown Demi Hobo Bag D04S-7540
Listing number: 153325949073
Seller: classycollectiblesny
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Hampton-Brown-Demi-Hobo-Bag-7540-EUC/153325949073
Comments: The creed wording is different on the brown 7540s I've found. Not sure if this is due to the color, factory, year, or if this is just outright fake? I think this one is fake?

Item 4: Coach Hampton black leather demi hobo bag G040-7540
Listing number: 5c38380e424d7dff50dda1f6
Seller: aimee_id
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-Hampton-black-leather-demi-hobo-bag-5c38380e424d7dff50dda1f6
Comments: The strap length leads me to believe it's been altered. (This should lower the price, right?) The seller doesn't appear to be responsive.

Item 5: Coach No G30-9354
Listing number: 5b6e530c2e14787caaafb23a
Seller: anrtreasures
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Black-leather-with-silver-limited-use-5b6e530c2e14787caaafb23a
Comments: This item I found has thrown me for a loop. It looks just like this 7540 style, but it says 9354. The creed wording is similar to Item 3, too. Searching for Coach style 9354, I find vintage bags like this... does Coach ever reuse style numbers? (I would think not.) There are more out there too of this "9354" style that look like 7540/7542's design.

Item 6: Coach Black Leather Crossbody Handbag #F30-9354
Listing number: 59873c12620ff7bfb306f216
Seller: easternfrey
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-Black-Leather-Crossbody-Handbag-59873c12620ff7bfb306f216
Comments: Another style 9354 bag that looks like style 7540. The "stamp" of the logo seems really weird. Does Coach ever do this? I saw another leather bag with a giant "COACH" stamp on the bottom side of the bag that I thought was weird, I can't find the link though.

Item 7: Coach shoulder bag with buckle detail. (no style# provided)
Listing number: 5c564325d6dc52d5cfffad53
Seller: laurita_g
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Black-shoulder-purse-5c564325d6dc52d5cfffad53
Comments: Just wondering the year, style, or if it's legit...

Item 8: Auth COACH 9248 Black Leather Soho Hobo Handbag w/Hangtag E050-9248
Listing number: 264288660265
Seller: jojrggr-ykh1ui2iex
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Auth-COACH-9248-Black-Leather-Soho-Hobo-Handbag-w-Hangtag/264288660265
Comments: I see sooooo many bags that look just like this one, with so many different style numbers listed on the creed patch. Different sizes too. However, only 1 I found on the Coach.com archive does NOT have hard, pointed edges on the flap. I can't view that item's details in the archive to confirm...

I read that the full leather Coach bags are harder to counterfeit (as opposed to signature/fabric) due to... well, leather. However I'm not sure anymore ! Seems like there are just as many.

Thank you for any help!! Trying to find guidance in buying an authentic leather Coach purse.

In the future, please don't post more than 4 or 5 authentication requests at the same time. Thank you.

1- genuine, and a highly trusted seller

2- genuine but the seller needs to post better photos

3- genuine, creed wording is correct for that year and type of leather

4- the bag is genuine but like you noticed, the strap has been seriously modified or completely replaced with one of much poorer quality.not made by Coach. If the seller isn't responsive, FIND A BETTER SELLER.

5- seems genuine but I don't have any information on it. And yes, Coach has been known to reuse style numbers, whether deliberately or not is unknown

6- not enough photos to authenticate

7- probably genune, smaller bags like Swingpacks often don't have creeds or serial numbers which makes them very hard to identify and authenticate

8- there are literally THOUSANDS of bags that aren't in the Wayback Machine including almost every bag or item made for the Factory Outlet Stores. Don't ever depend on it to have complete records. The Wayback ONLY had access to a limited number of Coach's website pages and the MFF (Made For Factory) bags weren't on the website. This is probably one of them since it has the Outlet stamp. Probably genuine.

And there are a TON of fakes of older all-leather bags. I strongly suggest reading the thread here that includes the Coach Salearea Guides if you haven't already done so.
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/salearea-guides.983575/

AND ANOTHER CAVEAT - we discourage purchasing from sellers on Poshmark because of Poshmark's AWFUL record with fakes and counterfeits. They either refuse to remove them when reported, remove genuine items as fake, or claim that obvious fakes are genuine. Buy at your own risk. They claim to have an "authenticator" but their accuracy record is abysmal.
