For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

It's genuine, looks like from 1998. Personally I prefer the Costa Rica leather but the condition of both bags would have to be compared, which we're really not supposed to do here. Decisions like that should be left to the buyer.

Thank you, Hyacinth!

Sorry I didn’t mean to break the rules. I just wanted to see if there were general observations about bags made in different countries (Hungary in this case), like how there is a general consensus that Costa Rican bags typically have buttery soft leather. Perhaps that should be a query on the vintage forum instead.

Thanks again!!

  • Comments: Hi, could you look at this bag, it just seems too good to be true. Thank you!

Hi, I'm looking for some help. I posted a request last night (post #36579) and then bumped it this morning after approx 12 hours (post #36587) but I don't see a response to either. One of my earlier posts #36009 was flagged and invisible for awhile awaiting mod approval. My two most recent posts do not have a similar notification on them, that I can see. I haven't seen anyones post ignored in the past, and I'm thinking it's unlikely that two post would be accidentally missed. I'm wondering if yesterdays and todays posts are invisible too.
Could anyone comment if this post is visible?
I hope I'm not being too impatient, I'm really kicking myself for hastily bidding on (and winning) what I now think is a fake. I haven't paid yet and would be grateful if someone would be willing to look at the listing.

Not all the authenticators here do newer styles. Please wait for someone who does.
There are some websites, sellers and item locations for which I prefer not to authenticate. There are various reasons, among them, the site or the sellers' refusal to do the right thing when it comes to counterfeit items. (And it is a volunteer authenticator's right not to authenticate any item for any reason if that's their desire.)

While I believe that some Goodwill online sites (supposedly) have statements affirming that they abide by federal trademark law and won't sell and will remove counterfeit items, other Goodwill sites imply a "caveat emptor" policy.

And as pointed out by @kithrobyn's experience in notifying a Goodwill listing of a fake (here), they were unwilling to admit that their "expert authenticators" know what they're doing.

Because the counterfeiters have been getting better in replicating their fakes, some styles are very well faked and swaggers are among them.

I do believe that the bag you won is okay but the pictures aren't as clear as they should be for such a well-faked style.

If you read Post Number One as it says at the top of each page in this forum you'll see that we require information about where the item was purchased or is being sold, and a URL if available.

Hi all, I found this (possibly) Coach briefcase at a Goodwill recently but can only find one completed/sold listing for it on eBay and don't know the name of the line. It measures 15.5" width, 11" height, 4.25" base, and the serial on the creed is No J2S-5333. Can you advise me if it is authentic?

It's authentic from 2002.
