Serial numbers are a complicated subject.
Please read the detailed guides written by @Hyacinth that are posted on the SaleArea guides thread. This one discusses serial numbers:

Thanks. I think I'm now more confused LOL I'm just trying to find a few vintage pieces to buy, restore, repair and keep in my closet to hand down to my daughter. And I hate buggin' y'all to authenticate.

We'd rather help you buy the real deals than see you throw good money after bad because you don't want to bug us.

If they have all numbers, the bags were made before 1994. In 1994, Coach switched to using creed numbers had a letter code for the month of manufacture, a year code and a factory code, and the style number after the dash. Before that, the numbers were unique serial numbers.

Hi. I am posting to ask this group to authenticate a Coach Edie 42 in Beechwood, purchased from Ebay. Here is a link: http://tinyurl.com/yxtfgjv3 Thanks in advance for any help. The pictures that you see of tag, interior patch and hardware are pictures I have taken of the bag in my home. Thanks again.

Had you come here prior to purchasing, I would have recommended against a seller who steals most of her pictures from the designers' websites.

While I get that she wants to keep her item(s) packaged and in new condition, buyers (and authenticators) need to be able to look at the listings to first verify that the seller has the actual item in her possession and second, that the items are authentic.

Newer styles (in the last 5 or so years) have been closely faked and there are tiny details that prove and disprove authenticity and in showing minimal pictures of the actual items, it's impossible to judge them from the pictures in the listing.

Assuming that the pictures you've posted are the item you received, I believe the bag looks good.

Hi. The pictures of the parts of the bag that I thought you needed to see were taken by me in my home. I was scared, but took a chance on the bag due to the 30 day return policy. My credit card it pretty strict on fraud, so I know that they would make a charge back if it was fake. THANKS!

I'm back, but this time with a separate question for the same bag.

The Coach Willis A5C-9927 that I posted was deemed authentic. But I noticed the hangtag it came with doesn't look real (at least to me). Have you all seen an instance that the hangtag was fake but the bag real? Or is it commonly an indicator
the entire thing is fake?

Here's photos of the hangtag. It has the Coach logo on both sides but they're different fonts. Thank you guys!

Unless there's a really obvious problem, hang tags (by themselves) are difficult to authenticate.

Personally, I don't see any problems with the hangtag you've posted.

In answer to your question about seeing hangtags on fakes, I've seen both fake bags with genuine hang tags as well as authentic bags with fake hang tags.

We never judge a bag's authenticity by the hang tag (or by any other removable/replaceable part) although we'll comment on it if appropriate.

Since it's the Willis bag you're buying and asked about, it's the bag that was deemed authentic and the bag's authenticity doesn't change even if there's a fake prop.

Many thanks to you! I noticed the C's were different on the other side of the of the hangtag, as well as the A. The A isn't as slanted as the other side's A. I wasn't sure if it meant anything or not. I didn't know hang tags were hard to authenticate.

I'm happy to know this information. You all are appreciated!

Yes, it's fake.

It's fake. Wrong turnlock padding, fake font used for the serial number.

The first buyer has the right to leave negative FB if they bought a fake, let's hope that all potential buyers have the sense to check that Feedback.

Thank you, ladies! The backpack is no longer there. Now I understand more than ever why the buyers are better not shipping counterfeit bags back to the seller...

I have a question on a bag lot I'm considering buying. She originally wanted $150 but after negotiating, she's willing to let it go for $110 for the entire lot and that includes her shipping the items to me. BUT if you look at the Coach logo on the bag, it's partially missing. Can this be fixed? Is it worth buying? On the reversible side, it's fine. Thanks!
