Hi! If you could please authenticate this, that would be amazing!

Also, this item would have still used brass hardware (considering the production date and location)?

If anyone happens to know if the leather on bags from 2001 produced in China was still high-quality, that would be useful additional info. (My only other vintage Coach, so my only comparison, is a Court from 1998 produced in the United States.)
I had a 1999 China Willis and a 2000 China briefcase and the leather was exactly the same as my US bags. I'm not sure about 2001, but I think it is probably fine. I think the leather quality deteriorated starting around 2003.

Could be, the China-made versions of classic styles that I have are mostly from around 2004-05. There was a China-made red City Bag I returned to the outlet because the leather disappointed me but I don't remember the exact year it was made.

If the bag is genuine then they still would have used brass hardware with that shade of red, and the bag is genuine. As for the leather, my personal opinion is that I prefer the older non-China leathers but that's my own opinion. There's nothing actually wrong with the China leathers, they're just not quite on the same level as the US, Italian and Costa Rican ones. I've owned both.

Thanks so much to all of you! I *really* appreciate it!

I have one hesitation and was hoping to ask for advice. (If I should post in a different thread, please just let me know!)

I got my first vintage Coach recently, which is also a Court (United States, 1998). It's a great style of bag for me, in terms of what I wear to my office. I'm a little concerned about durability, and was hoping someone has experience to share. I'm trying to avoid a bad investment. (I live in Toronto, Canada, which makes each purchase relatively expensive, with currency conversion, shipping, tax, and any import fees. Locally, vintage Coach seems hard to find, so I'm purchasing items on eBay from the US.)

On the Court that I have, I'm a bit concerned that the leather around the base of the top handle may stretch, or split in one spot. Also, one of the leather tabs holding the strap is ok, while the other is stretched out and the leather has thinned. I know vintage Coach bags are durable. I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinion on this style? (Or a similar style.) Is this typical, or are these bags also quite durable?

I think about this compared to a Willis; I'm aware that the Willis used a dowel so it could bare weight. (The Willis is a bit bigger than what I'd like for work.) In case it's relevant, I don't overstuff my bags (fairly large smartphone, wallet, compact, and a couple of other small miscellaneous items). I would like to get quite a bit of wear from bags, and wear them fairly frequently. I rotate between under 10 bags right now for work. One of the reasons I'm getting into vintage Coach is because I'm tired of cost-cutting production methods and easily-scratched hardware on bags from contemporary mid-range designers.

This would be a good question to ask on the Vintage Coach Photos & Chat thread:

I second the suggestion to ask at the Vintage thread. Just Copy & Paste your question and re-post it over there.

Yep, they did have some unique colors and anyone who'd never owned an older Coach would have been perfectly happy with them. But there's just "something" missing. They don't get better with age like the vintage leathers do.
I posted a picture of my blue Rambler's Legacy in another non-Coach thread, and several people commented that the leather looked so soft! Which, unfortunately, it isn't.

Yep, that's why I returned the red one. The other City Bag and the Willises I bought from 2004-05 haven't softened up either but by then I'd figured out that they probably wouldn't. But like you said, the colors! Aubergine, and that Federal / Wedgewood / Light Denim Blue that we still haven't found an official name for - who could resist?

I had one of the denim blue Willises (2005) and the leather was pretty nice. Loved the color but the size and shape didn't work for me!

True, I always have to switch to a smaller wallet when I'm using a Willis. But I love the style and shape and the crossbody strap, even if I wish Coach had made it at least an inch bigger in every dimension.

Coaches are kind of a TARDIS in reverse, always much smaller on the inside than the outside. If I have to schlep a lot of stuff, my LeSportsacs and especially Kiplings work a heckuva lot better. There are times when you just have to be practical. :graucho:
