IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Post number One in this thread lists the information we need to authenticate. In addition to photos we also need information about where you bought the bag and the URL if it's an online site. We'll also need a clearer readable photo of the creed stamp from inside the bag, the one you posted is too blurry to read. Thanks!
so i cant just submit photos of Coach purse etc to get authenticity?

We need to see certain details to figure out if it's authentic or not, and one of the most important ones is the stamping of the creed patch and serial number. It takes a LOT more than just one or two pictures of a purse or other item to figure out if it's authentic! If we need more photos, we'll ask. And the source of the item can be just as important. There's NO way to authenticate a Coach bag from just one photo.

Those are the authenticators' requirements AND the Coach forum's Rules. Most other designer bag forums' authentication rules here at tPF are much stricter.

Post Number One, please.

I found a pic of it, but no style number.

You probably won't find one by searching for the style number since Coach wasn't putting the style numbers in the serial number when that style was in production. Here's the catalog page from 1986:

No, you can't assume they are fake.

You can post here. In your posts, mention that you bought them at an estate sale. Post more than 2 pictures of the bags. Again, read the first post of this thread for pointers on which pictures we need.

Absolutely NOT !!! A lot of genuine Coach bags don't have creeds or serial numbers. You're never going to know which ones are real unless you have them authenticated here. Don't try to figure it out yourself.

Before you go ANY further, read the thread where the Salearea Guides are posted, and save the link. The guides will give a lot of information but they won't tell you what makes a Coach genuine because there's no easy way to tell. Every bag has to looked at carefully to see if the details are correct for that style, month, year and plant. Those guides should be required reading for anyone interested in Coach, especially the older styles. The Guides start with Post 14:

I say this to you honestly ... Hyacinth knows more about Coach than anyone I've ever seen, and I've watched her on this board for nine years now. She is the Coach GODDESS.
(And beenburned is the same on the newer bags, and whateve is a very close second. ALL THREE know what they're doing. You'll get the best answers here, I assure you.)
Please please please, slow down ... deep breath ... Rome was not built in a day, it takes more than a few minutes.
Pick a bag, post the pics for that bag here, and they WILL HELP you.
(And remember that even though the Coach authenticators here are online more, in my opinion, than many of the authenticators in the other sections of this board, they're not on here every single second. Patience!

And remember that while they WILL look at all of your bags, there needs to be some sort of organization to it too, right?
Pick a bag. post the pics from it in one post, here.
Then pick another bag. Post the pics from it in one post, here.
Then wait and see what Hyacinth says.

That's what authenticators are trying to do for you, but they need clear photos and some information to do a good job. Since you seem unclear about reading the first post in this thread I have copied the information below that applies to a bag that is not available online. If the bag doesn't have a creed stamp, post lots of photos, dimensions, and any tags that you find inside, look inside pockets and along the seams for tags.

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
