IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

My apologies, I’ll definitely remember to do this. I’m still fairly new to posting in blogs :flowers:
It's important, especially when the listing is for a fake because the ID will show up in searches for those looking for seller histories.

But it's also helpful to help us make sure we're looking at the correct listing (i.e., also include item number from listing) because ebay often redirects to an active listing when a listing has ended.

Will do :yes::tup:

I would very much appreciate the authenticators opinion about this bag, thank you.

Comments: I’ve never seen this bag before, but I’m wondering about this. Thanks so much. It’s black though, so I’m not sure I’ll purchase it.

I can't read the creed but if it says 9173, that's incorrect. 9173 is a different style bag and wasn't made in 1997.

ETA: Please don't report. Since we can't read nor confirm the creed, there isn't enough evidence that it's fake.

The seller might have misread the serial.

I'm leaning toward Fake on that one too mostly because it looks like a D plant code but the underscore in "No" is wrong. But like BeenBurned said, if the serial number isn't readable, it's not right to report it. We've seen quite a few fakes already of those Flatiron styles, and the month code is a bit early for that style too. Even if the plant code is "B" the "No" is in the wrong font and the date code still seems too early. All the PROVEABLY genuine Flatiron bags in my Files are from Fall and Winter 1997, none are from January of that year. I;d say there's about an 80 percent chance that it's fake. Don't report it, but DON'T buy it.

It's obvious that Ebay seller homeandmore2013 doesn't bother to verify authenticity. Use a lot of caution if buying, or find another seller.

It's a rare style that was sometimes faked. You're very lucky, yours is one of the genuine ones. Congratulations!

In return, can you do me a tiny favor? Could you please measure the shoulder strap length if you have a long tape measure? Please set the strap for the longest possible length and measure it end to end at the point the strap is attached to the bag. Thanks! I've wanted one of these for ages but I really need a crossbody length and I've never found a good dependable strap measurement. I just wish this one wasn't black or I'd be knocking at your door tomorrow.

I'm definitely reading the prefix as A7D and noticed that the "No." and the underscore were different from MOST of the *7D creeds but I did find this one.

First is the creed from the bag in question. Second is from this listing. I think the seller copied the style number incorrectly.

All are authentic.

#2 is 92097. (Note that this one has been closely faked so ask first.)

I can't located a style number for #1.

I see the plant code as D too.

Both creeds in BeenBurned's examples have unusual (to my eye) spacing in the creed wording, including the noticeable gap between the word and the period after the words BAG, COWHIDE, and LEATHER.

So are these two very similar creeds fake or real?

Re @Catbird9's observation, I'm not sure either bag is authentic; I was pointing out the similar fonts.

Actually, I had misread (or mistyped) the style number as 9173 since the seller described 4173 and her bag does seem to match the style.

However with that said, I found another anomyly (sp?) that might help with the authentication or un-authentication of homeandmore2013's bag.

homeandmore2013's bag has sonoma-type striped lining, whereas this listing has solid lining.
