Where did you get it? I'm seeing problems. There are details on this bag that don't match the style number. The creed wording is wrong for the style and the leather texture is also wrong. More opinions are welcome.

I purchased it at a vintage store here in Minneapolis. The leather is super thick like the other Berkeley bags I own and the serial number font is consistent, although the “Tumble Method” creed isn’t used. The hardware has the brushed brass like my others as well.

Those straps around the sides of your bag with the turnlocks are not on the 9016 pictured in this 1996 catalog image:

Here's a 9016 from my files, note the different creed wording and the different strap attachment and buckle:

Exactly. I saw all those differences. The style is supposed to be a backpack.

Do you think it could’ve been a pre-production bag that didn’t make it into the catalog, it has the outlet bullet? All of the other elements are so right, the stitching is immaculate, the leather is very rich and the correct russet color, the font of the serial number is correct, the top handle, base, and overall shape match the 9016. My heart tells me it’s authentic from a quality/craftsmanship perspective.

Authentication for this Stewardess please.

The turn lock is a little different with that indentation on top— thoughts?

That did occur to me. I've seen a bag with similar turnlocks on the sides but I can't remember where.

ETA: However, I think you would have trouble selling it. There is no way to prove it is authentic with those differences.

If you happen to find the previously mentioned bag or if anyone else has more information, I’d be very open to hearing about it!

If I can’t get it authenticated, I’ll probably just end up using it! I understand not being able to have it authenticated here based on those style differences, but the other elements are so accurate I’d have a hard time believing it wasn’t a failed concept before the launch.

I agree, it's a dilemma when you can't definitely authenticate it, but can't really prove it's fake either.
