Comment: J4K prefix, United States made, is on daria48 list as "probably always fake" so I just want to be sure before I report it

Thank you.
I wouldn't feel comfortable reporting the first one. The underline is definitely longer than in my comparable creed. I noticed that later on the underline for that plant did get longer at least on one creed, but not as long as on that one. More opinions are welcome.

The J4K is fake.

I would feel VERY comfortable reporting the tan "Bleecker 9303". not only is the serial font slightly off with the too-long underscore and the diagonal on the N being much wider than the two vertical lines (it should be a little wider but the vertical lines are downright SPINDLY) and the hyphen between the prefix and style number isn't long enough. But the big red flag for me is the stitching on the lowest edge of the handle mounts, which is something the counterfeiters almost always seem to get wrong..The bottom edge of those padded handle mounts should be almost flat at the center, but the crooks like to round them off to match the rest of the stitching on that piece.

Here's a different Bleecker style, but every genuine one you find will have that flattened base on the handle mounting tabs.

and the tan fake:

and here's a close-up of a 9301 Small Bleecker Basket:

and the probably-fake creed with the too-long underline, too-short serial hyphen, and the not-quite-right "N"

I have sort of accidentally started collecting Coach and D&B handbags because I find great bargains on bags I already love, but of course, I still have plenty to learn about the brands, which leaves me open to possible mistakes. Because I prefer the harness-leather type bags, I operate under a strict code of, "If I'd pay that much for the leather itself then I'm good", because I have NO problem ripping apart a fake for the materials. What I AM well-versed in is quality of leather and workmanship regardless of brand, and my eye for detail has helped me so far, and my black Willis is my go-to daily bag. I am hoping to get some insight into the following bag I purchased at Goodwill yesterday. This one stumps me, because there are few to no examples online of this exact style, though I can find VERY similar ones, and because this one seems to fall in that post-creed, pre-serial-number time frame. It measures about 15" high with an oval base about 13" x 5", and the handles are about 23" long from end to end, or with a rise of about 9.5" above the top of the bag. The details appear good, and the leather itself is worth every bit of what I paid, even in the condition it is in right now. So, do I have a genuine Coach bag, or do I have some good harness leather?

Thanks in advance!

Completely genuine, but I don't know the name. It's almost a Shopping Bag but the base is different.

WHATEVE is our expert authenticator and ID'er for vintage and Cashin-era Coach, she might know what Coach called it

And welcome to tPF!

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

Could someone please authenticate this coach bag I just bought from a lady off Facebook yard sale locally this is my first Coach bag and although I didn’t have to spend a lot on it I’m hoping I made a good choice. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I was 99% sure it was right. I am in love with the bag, though I have NO idea how I would organize it unless I was carrying a lot of celery around. I will wait patiently to see if Whateve has any additional info. What an amazing resource this place is for learning all the things!

Thank you both. When I put whateve's authentic 8C creed next to the questionable one, the differences stand out even more.

I noticed the more rounded mounting tabs too. Thank you for confirming that red flag, Hyacinth.
