Comment: Overstamping around serial number? Creed was photographed at an angle which makes it hard to be sure.

I probably wouldn't call that overstamping, it's more like a visible stamped border around the number, which isn't right. To me, overstamping means the individual marks above and below serial number digits from the digit right above or below it in the stamping mechanism. Since I came up with that term over a decade ago, it seems right that I can define it however I choose.

You also should notice that the serial prefix is "D8J-" which was listed in the Daria48 List as "often used in fakes", although many of the fakes are very close and probably ALL the D8J- and most other J plant codes in purses with USA creeds are fake. The J plant code was used for clothing in the mid-90s and then switched to China by Spring 1999 and used through the early 2000s for handbags.

A picture of the entire inside pocket out to the edges, the entire interior from above, and of the male part of the magnetic snap would probably show other problems.

Found two bags at a Salvation Army store and have never seen the style before. Hoping to authenticate and identify them. Thank you in advance!

The first is a green one is 12" L x 8" H x 5" DView attachment 4052032 View attachment 4052033 View attachment 4052034 View attachment 4052035

Both genuine, from the early 1990s. The top is a 9905 Crosby Bag, the bottom one is a 9899 Mulberry Bag. Both have springlock closures.

Amazing finds! I love both these styles.

Slight correction. The Mulberry has a snap. It just looks like a springlock but isn't.

Same as above. And the creed is stamped much too low on the inside pocket.

OK, got it. Thanks Hyacinth, as always, I appreciate the depth of your knowledge. I found three fakes of this style today! The other one is in the Hall of Shame already.

The following shows the difference between overstamping and bordered serial number (although in this example, the overstamped serial number is also bordered.)

And this is interesting. IMO, Coach accepted a return of a fake and donated it! It's another D8J creed with a border but "donated" stamped.

My mom purchased two bags from a resale shop and wants to know if they are real.

The first bag is gold and is 15" L x 10 1/2" H x 4 1/2" D

both are fine.

Interesting. The creed stamp is really badly made too, a lot of the "S"s don't even look like an S and there are at least 2 different S's in the creed. The Coach logo is rough too, there's no tiny triangular opening in the top part of the "A". The border around the logo is too thick.

A lot of those J plant code fakes were very close fakes, but we've also seen them with date codes that are seriously wrong, fake magnetic snaps, and a border around the logo that's too thick.

On the gold bag, my mom said she did a Google search on it and all the ones that she saw that were real had an "F" instead of a "G" on the serial number. She was just wondering if you knew why hers showed a "G" and the ones she found showed an "F."
You're talking about the month codes on the bag and when bags are made in different months, they have different month codes.

Your bag was made in July and those with Fs were made in June.
