Huh, not sure why photo comes up locked- trying again View attachment 4004548

It's genuine, probably the standard Crescent Bag # 9235 from the very late 1970s or early 1980s, it was discontinued in 1984 (there was a remake in 1991 but that version probably would have used the newer serial number format). There was also a larger version measuring 13x10 that Jed Winoker says was style 9210 and also made in NYC around the same time but from the measurements in the listing this seems to be the standard version..

Awesome, thank you Hyacinth! It is a cool looking bag and I love the color. Time to clean and condition!

It's fine as long as you get the bag pictured. The seller has another serial number in the description.

It looks like she did a "sell similar" and forgot to update the description. This was the other (previous) listing, also authentic.

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

I believe I have a real challenge question here:
Bag Name: Handle Backpack Style No.9992

I bought a Coach Handle Backpack yesterday at an estate sale. I have bought and sold Coach bags for over 20 years but this bag has me really stumped.
Bag appears 100% authentic Handle Backpack: from the leather to the stitching to the hang tag to the detail wording and spacing of the creed. The Creed serial number on this Backpack is No G4D - 9927. This puts it as a July 1994 bag, but here is the thing - the style number 9927 is that of a Willis bag - Pictures of the bag and creed attached.
Is it possible that in the chaos year of 1994 at Coach they used the same style number for two different bag designs?
Did the US factory "D" use G4D and a unique serial number to follow ( not a style number) ?
Since this is an early 1994 bag could it have been a prototype ?
Could Factory D have assigned # 9927 to this Handle Backbpack and then it was discovered by Factory D that style had already been assigned to Willis bag ?
Is it possible this bag was incorrectly Creeded with a Willis bag creed ( just a mix up )
I am completely perplexed - anyone have an idea?

I'm sorry it's fake. That particular font with the G4D prefix is seen on lots of fakes. If any of those mistakes had happened, it should still have the correct font for the D factory.

Aside from all the other red flags, that Handle Backpack style wasn't even introduced until Fall 1996, which is more than 2 years AFTER the date in the serial number.
