I vaguely remember a discussion about a bunch of vintage Coach fakes that were identified as "bean bags" on their creeds. Could this be one of them?

Seller: deb-of-rah

This same bag and same seller " DEB-OF-RAH " were posted here and may have also been reported to Ebay on June 22nd, post 23322 and 23323:

from Catbird9:
"Comment: No serial number. Inside pocket & its zipper look wrong. What I can see of the strap looks questionable. Leather wrinkled."

My comments:
"I agree with all of the above. The zipper pull is too big, the entire top edge of the bag really looks badly made and sewn, the lack of a serial number is impossible to explain, the tiny bit of the strap end you can see in pic #2 looks like the ends are riveted instead of sewn, and the only style that even slightly resembles this is a 4017 Lightweight Light Hobo, but I owned one of those and that's NOT how the top and especially the top corners of that style are made.

The creed stamping by itself is almost perfect, the only possible problem I can see is the background of the Coach logo, which should be darker or textured to look like it's been burned a bit. But without a serial number I wouldn't personally want to report it although I wouldn't recommend buying it. The pictures just aren't showing the details we need to see."

I personally still don't think it's genuine but there just aren't enough photos of the details we need to see to prove it. JMO, others can report it if they're more confident than I am.

Hi! I am thinking of buying this coach framed bag from a friend. I would appreciate it if someone can confirm its authenticity. This is not listed on any selling sites but i hope the pictures of the bag would be enough. :) also, the style indicated in the bag is 9998. I saw a similar looking bag with style number 9996. Would somebody know the difference between the two styles? Thank you!

Maybe the seller added more photos. I think it should be reported. There is enough to prove it is fake. Inside zipper pull is metal. Main zipper pull ring is too big. The finishing around the edge of the pocket is wrong.

The following pictures are comparing the bean bag creed on the bag in question to 2 bean bag creeds on actual bean bags.

The bag in question's creed is puffy and it appears that the spacing both between lines and between the bottom line and "made in the United states" is closer than on the known authentic items.

In the first place, it NOT a bean bag! So has any of you ladies reported it, or should I do that now? LMK

UPD: ok, never mind, I see the listing is no longer there. Thank you all who replied!

Some bean bag creeds are on authentic bags. What we've learned is that after Coach made the bean bags, they forgot to change the creed stamp back and made some bags with it. So bags with bean bag creeds need to be looked at, since not all are fake. I reported this one because of the other details that prove it is fake, which is why it was removed.

Thanks for the explanation, Whateve! Yes, that's it was about, I now remember.

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.

    Item:

    Comments:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
