IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

We don't report items we can't prove are fake. Even though the listing mentions a serial number that is fake, the seller could be mistaken, so without a picture of the creed or other visible evidence that an item is fake, it can't be reported.

The prefix J6D can be valid on other bags and the style number 9135 is also valid, but the two things together should never happen.

The listing's already been removed, but I could see enough of the serial number to verify that it matched what the seller posted in the listing. I don't report anything based ONLY on what the seller says without actually seeing the proof for myself, and we never suggest anyone else do it either. Sellers can and do make mistakes.

But after looking at probably ten thousand different creed photos over the years, reading those poorly-stamped or worn down numbers gets easier.

whateve and Hyacinth,

Yes, I totally understand what you are saying, and I wouldn't report it either without pictures to probe it(and I didn't report the listing I posted about). I hope that I get better at spotting which one is authentic, but I'm still a newbie so it will take some time. Thanks for the comments. :-)

Would someone please authenticate these bags? Thank you as always!

1- genuine Hippie Backpack
2- genuine Bridle Top Handle
3- PROBABLY genuine, maybe a Lexington Drawstring. But without a clear readable photo of the creed patch and serial number I won't give a full authentication. If you're interested in buying it, please ask the seller for a better photo and post it here. It's a lot easier if you check the listings carefully and ask for a copy of any ,missing or inadequate photos before trying to authenticate.

Hi, Hyacinth! The seller replied and has posted a picture of the creed patch and serial number as the last picture in the album.
It's authentic.

oh shooooot, I had a creepy feeling. I was going to buy it I told her I was, then asked for the picture.

What is the best thing to tell her why I won't buy?
How about the truth; that's it's a seller's responsibility to verify authenticity of her items before listing and clearly, she didn't do that. Refer her here if necessary.

If she's an honest seller, she'll appreciate the heads up and will apologize, thank you and NOT relist!

I get afraid of people sometimes for the silliest reasons, I'm a total people pleaser, but I'm going to just let her know. It's the best and most honest thing to do.

You can do it in a nice, educational way. The seller has other Coach items and doesn't seem to intentionally list fakes.

If I made an error and didn't realize it, I'd hope someone would be nice enough to let me know so I don't rip off a buyer.

yeah, she has really good reviews and is a kind person from our communication, and from what others say, so I doubt she knows honestly. I just told her and told her I'd be happy to refer her here if she is in disbelief.

EDIT: she assures me it's real, referring her here.
2ND EDIT: I don't know if she came here or not, but then sent me this "The k stands for November. They ALWAYS use k for November. The 3 is for 2003. And the H is the factory code. And I assure you they use the H to describe an United States factory. So I have no idea what your talking about. The zippers are YKK and leather is buttery soft. You've been misled. Your loss."..

yikes, that didn't go over like I'd hoped.

thanks!

Thank you, Hyacinth! Regarding #3 bag, I have sent a message to the seller for a better picture of the creed patch and serial number. I'll post it here once she replies.

Thank you, Whateve! I placed a bid on all three bags asap because someone bought the last Coach #4180 black bag I saw on ebay as soon as I had its authenticity verifled here.

Sorry for another. I am so wanting a rambler's legacy, and realized the last one I wanted had no hang tag.
Item: COACH 9061 RAMBLER LEGACY BLACK LEATHER BAG
Listing no: 382072707222
Seller: basia8913
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-9061-...707222?hash=item58f54ed896:g:E2kAAOSwcgNZA4Qp

Not sure why her listing says it was made in Costa Rica?
I think it is okay too. There is a known mistake in the creed. It was made in 2004, not 1994, like the creed indicates.

Yikes! You @klb4556 did the right thing.

Etsy seller HistoricalLaughter doesn't know Coach as well as she thinks she does nor does she (evidently) seem willing to learn.

From HistoricalLaughter: "The k stands for November. They ALWAYS use k for November."
The correct information: Actually, K stands for October. It ALWAYS stands for October when on an AUTHENTIC bag! (For the most part, Coach doesn't use I because it's too easily confused with 1.)

From HistoricalLaughter: "The 3 is for 2003."
The correct information: She's correct here but that's for an authentic bag. This bag isn't authentic, wouldn't have been made in 2003 and even if authentic, at just 13-14 years old, wouldn't have met Etsy's "vintage" criteria!

From HistoricalLaughter: "And the H is the factory code. And I assure you they use the H to describe an United States factory."
The correct information: On an authentic bag, H is a US factory. On a fake, it may say "US" on the creed but I assure you, HistoricalLaughter, that it was NOT made in the US. And in fact, I am pretty sure that the US H plant wasn't even in operation in 2003.

From HistoricalLaughter: "So I have no idea what your talking about."
The correct information: It's the seller who has no idea what she's talking about!

From HistoricalLaughter: "The zippers are YKK and leather is buttery soft. You've been misled. Your loss."..
The correct information: The seller certainly hasn't read @Hyacinth and Salearea's guides nor has she read TPF.

Based on this, I think you dodged a bullet because I suspect you'll see more fakes from that seller.

Please don't think you did anything wrong! Some people just aren't willing to learn from their mistakes.

ETA: Whether Etsy acts on reports, I'm not sure but it doesn't hurt to hit the button!

Thank you for breaking that down. I was surprised she came back with all that info, but I have been a member here for a long time and trust you all too much. Plus I can't say what it is, I almost wanted to purchase before knowing because it looked so good, the leather and hardware, but I had a sneaking suspicion something wasn't right. Glad I went with my gut because while I can afford to pick up a vintage bag in this range if it's what I'm wanting right now, I'm in no position to lose money ( as none of us are).

thanks!
