Creeds can change. The only time you can compare details in creeds and serial numbers is between bags made in the same plant, month and year and with the same style number. It's fine, but it's NOT vintage since it was made in 2007..

Please read the six Salearea COACH Guides posted at Ebay, especially the ones about creeds and serial numbers, to see how and why those details can change.

Will do, thanks for the authentication and the info!!

I hope the seller is responsive and does the right thing.

I hold a special disdain for sellers who mix authentic and fake items because buyers tend to "trust" them when they see multiple items, decent feedback and they tend to assume honesty and integrity. It's not always the case.
I have directed the seller to your posts and she advised that she would have the item info checked by an eBay recognized authentication site. He/she subsequently called this forum into question. Is there a way that I might contact you privately?

  • Item: Coach Round Cross Body Chester Bag Number 0519-218
    Listing number: Etsy 485829430
    Seller: ProVintageGear
    Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/485829..._search_query=chester&ref=shop_items_search_1

  • Hello this is my first post here, please let me know if I have formatted correctly and posted in the right place. I am in search of what I think is a medium chester or canteen bag (I have a mini that I love but would like the same style but bigger).
  • Possible red flags on this bag: Is the color right? It doesn't appear to have a patina for a bag that is 25-30 years old.
  • In the collage image it looks a little ragged. This might just be from improper storage.

It's authentic and I believe the style is a Chester.

Other than the back of the turnlock, what else indicates the clutch is fake? I'm not counting the hangtag because that was probably added later. The Coach stamp on the front is iffy but the picture angle isn't the best. The detail of the ticking stripe seems to match another photo in my files of a genuine item, but that's the only turnlock clutch pic I seem to have.

If the turnlock was ever replaced with a non-Coach piece, many of them have indentations on the back. We can't use only the turnlock to prove something's counterfeit.

ETA - I found a few more photos of the 7171 Turnlock Case from 1995-96 in my files, one with the Coach stamp just like on the one being questioned and the other with the stamp under and hidden by the flap. All 3 have the same lining and inside pocket zipper pull.

I haven't saved many examples of this style to my files. I'm curious about the inside zipper ends. On one picture I have in my files (with the stamp up high) there are zipper stops.

There are also zipper stops in this listing by a tpfers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-RED-L...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

In this listing, which has the lower stamp, there are no zipper stops. http://www.ebay.com/itm/112299782231?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Do you think this was a change Coach made when they moved the logo stamp?

Personally, I think it would be difficult to find a better system of peer review, with different experts weighing in who have nothing to gain. I've been very impressed with the knowledge and resources on display here; every opinion can be backed up with amazingly detailed records. A paid authenticator, on the other hand, could have a bias in favor of whoever is paying for the service.
