Thank you Hyacinth. I am not at any risk of breaking the bank and dh is ok with my excesses. I am just a bit embarrassed!
I am not at all interested in the new Coach bags. I did look at the 1941 line at my local boutique but was sorely disappointed that they felt not nearly as lovely as the old bags. And I found the combinations of leather colours a bit too trendy for my conservative (old fashioned?) tastes.
And , frankly, the fun of hunting and gathering on eBay has been irresistible for a while. Was it St Augustine (before he became a saint) who prayed for being made good, but not yet?
But you are right. There will be more classic and vintage bags on eBay in the future.

Yep, in the last few years I've found only an average of maybe one new style a year that I was willing to spend my money (or my DH's) on. The leather quality just isn't close to the old ones or even the Kristins, at least not in what to me is an affordable price range. And there's just NO FREAKIN' WAY I'm going to buy a bag without outside pockets. Digging deep inside my bag for keys or a pen or my To Do list shouldn't be necessary. Maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal if I wasn't retired, or if my bag was a fashion accessory like it is for a lot of people, but I expect it to supply what I need, when I need it and the newer bags just don't. When I have a bunch of things to do and want the things I need to do them at my fingertips, I'll carry one of my old classic Coaches or a Kipling or LeSportsac instead. We need POCKETSSESSS, Preciousss!

But hey, I haven't been one of Coach's targeted buyers for a long time. No big thing. :coolio:

Seller: Gutsygirls on ETSY
Comment:. Um, am I missing something.. this is fake right?
The overview says from 80s, description says from 60s, serial number looks invalid with wrong style number with bold font. Isn't it illegal to sell counterfeits on ETSY also?

Have you by any chance done a full all-forum tPF search for the name of that seller? Please do, it makes interesting reading and should keep you shaking your head in amazement for at least the next 3 or 4 days. You can also search for her still-active Ebay ID, DEBBIEB208

There's also a collection of posts that can be Googled:

And no, Etsy apparently doesn't care, judging by the previous 20 or 30 times various members here have reported her blatantly obvious counterfeits to them, not to mention bags with serial numbers proving they weren't even CLOSE to being the 20 years old or more that Etsy requires, or used to, to quality as being "vintage" and able to be listed on the site.

And yes, she lies about when bags were made, about who designed them, and most of the time she avoids posting pics of the creed and serial number because all too often they prove that another piece of her cwap is fake, like in this case. After all her "experience", she thinks that bag is a 9061 Rambler's Legacy?

You can try reporting it if you're an Etsy member, but don't hold your breath.

GutsyGirls (on Etsy) AKA debbieb208 (on Ebay) AKA similar names on other sites has a long history of listing and mixing fakes. If you search TPF for "debbieb208" and "gutsygirls" there are dozens of posts.

The bag on etsy is fake but even if it were authentic, I would recommend finding an honest seller.

ETA: Although her ebay ID is still active, I believe it's prohibited from listing Coach.

Hello authenticators, would please kindly ID & authenticate this purse for me please?

Item: vintage coach purse
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/182428821585
Seller: tracy38.740

Without a full photo of the creed and any serial number it's really hard to even figure out a date for it. It's PROBABLY an early version of the Station Bag, but the seller couldn't even be bothered to give measurements. They often had the creed stamps on the front pocket. This would be the Shoulder Pouch Small from around 1983 IF it's genuine. And it would be small, only 6x8 inches.

From a 1983 catalog:
