Could someone please authenticate this Coach? It appears to be a vintage City bag. I have another City bag and this one is identical every way except for the last four of the serial number and the "leather ware" written under Coach on the creed. The serial number on this is M4N-4154. All other City bags appear to have 9790 as the last four in the serial number? Thanks in advance for your help!! Ps. This was a thrift store purchase - $5.View attachment 3575748View attachment 3575749View attachment 3575750View attachment 3575751View attachment 3575752
Sorry, it is fake. That number is on the fakes list. All city bags will have a style number of 9790 or an all-numeric random number in the creed. Note how the word "scratches" is misspelled.

ETA: Even though you bought it at a thrift store and it was only $5, it is illegal to sell fakes. I would demand my money back.

hello, I recently bought a nwt coach bag (I removed tag after purchase) from a local seller via Facebook group buy/sell. She said she got it as a gift but never used it, I kind of got a red flag feeling but I bought it anyways because I'm too polite It for the most part looks genuine, hardware seems fine and has the standard YKK zipper, although the handles are really off-putting to me, I don't like how stiff it feels and how the top edges are brittle (side note: I live in Hawaii and humidity is not a friend to leather) I don't know if it's from not being used and stored or poor quality material.TIA!

The bag looks fine to me although Facebook groups are notorious for having fakes.

I do have some other comments though.
You said: "I kind of got a red flag feeling but I bought it anyways because I'm too polite" -- It's not "polite" to ignore red flags. It's your hard-earned money and if you feel uncomfortable, you need to learn to advocate for yourself and be assertive enough to either ask more questions or walk away! No one is going to care about your protection than you!

You said: "hardware seems fine and has the standard YKK zipper" -- There's no such thing as "standard YKK zipper." Coach uses YKK as well as other brands and zipper brand proves absolutely NOTHING about authenticity. If you got your information from some online guide, get rid of that bookmarked link.

Regarding the handles, they're patent leather. Patent leather has a different feel and texture than cowhide.

In any case, again, the bag is fine.
thanks so much for your reply

First, my editorial comment: I hate that Coach keeps changing things, making it more and more difficult to authenticate items. First it was the removal of serial numbers on creeds, replacing them with white "production info" tags buried deep inside the bags "somewhere." Then it was the 1941 collection bags, with creeds with serial numbers that aren't random, aren't with "style numbers" matching the style number of that bag and seem to be numbers that were pulled out of thin air! (If anyone knows what 20315 means, I'd love to be educated!)

I believe your bag is one of the latter referenced above. The style number isn't 20315 as shown as the "presumed" style on the creed, but rather 38124. I do think the bag you got is authentic though I stand by my opinion that ubercalgal should be doing her own work, taking her own pictures, writing her own descriptions and preparing GOOD listings!

I do have one last request. Does your bag have tags sewn either into a pocket or into the lining on the main large interior compartment? One tag would be a "made in" label and the other would have what appears to be similar to a serial number. You may have to dig to find them, possibly pulling the lining to the outside.

The following listing is a good one of the same bag that shows both the creed and serial, RG-20315 as well as the tag showing the style number as 38124.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-Coach-1941-Rogue-Bag-Black-Glovetanned-Pebbled-Leather-38124-BPBLK-/172372995216?hash=item28223b2c90:g:mcAAAOSwYIxX~q:huh:&nma=true&si=HYccTfWv5OQJb%2BZqMZgbBqlf9VE%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

And the following images show the tag and the creed for the bag.

Sorry fory late reply. It does have the tags you asked, but I didn't get the picture of the tags ( actually the bag is in my friend's house)

Can't wait to see my bag, I really really hope it's authentic.

Thank a lot BeenBurned
