Thank you guys for your help..I bought this bag on eBay. The thing is I have been buying and selling Coach bags on eBay and other sites for over 5 years. I have probably sold more then 5,000 of them over the years and I have never had an authenticity issue until now.. You would have to see this bag in person to understand what I mean, but it really does look and feel like an authentic Coach bag down to every detail except for the strange creed #!!

Thank you!
No problem! I was enjoying the Mulberry bag discussion. Mine has the pat. tag inside too!
You're welcome!
Thank you!!! The leather is one of the nicest I have seen, and I have seen a lot of Coach..lol.
I was a little worried because I thought the stamp should have been ON the pocket,
which would have meant it was counterfeit I see now.
TA-TA!!
You're welcome! I have the smaller version. The leather is amazing.
Oops! Sorry! At least I know I picked a good one! Thanks.
No problem, I wasn't planning on bidding. I already have one! You're welcome!

They're called AAA fakes or Superfakes and are frequently sold through the Philippines, which is why we always caution posters, even P.I. residents, to avoid Philppine sellers. Often the only thing that gives them away is problems with the serial number, which is why Coach's decision to eliminate stamped serial numbers is so insane. And they're often listed as samples to explain any serial number problems.

Buying or selling so-called samples is always dangerous since in most cases there's no way to authenticate the bag, especially if it never went into production or if Coach used one of their two standard style numbers for sample bags. And for some reason, those "sample" sellers never seem to be able to produce a receipt for their purchases alledgedly bought directly from Coach. So we're supposed to believe that not only does Coach re-use already assigned serial numbers with invalid year and date codes and style numbers in their sample bags, but that they don't issue receipts - or collect state sales taxes! - on bags sold at sample sales.

As for the quality of the bag - let's face it, the only thing keeping fakes makers from making almost perfect copies of Coach (or LV or Hermes or any other designer or name brand bag) is how much they're willing to spend to make them. The materials and cheap labor are available in dozens of third world countries so it's just a matter of balancing cost against potential profit.

I'll offer a third opinion that your bag is fake.

Style 12345 was a MFF bag and would have "F" in front of the style number. Yet none of the fakes have the F.

Here's another example of the authentic version of the bag:

Respectfully, owning a bunch of Coach bags (even 50 of them) doesn't necessarily make one an expert. We've seen a lot of obvious fakes but we've also seen some scary "good" ones.

Although your bag could fool some, it's not as "good" as some fakes since it has a completely invalid serial number for its style.

And since you say you aren't a novice, I assume you also have some selling experience. If you want to protect your reputation (and ebay account), it's a good idea to have items you didn't purchase from a legitimate retailer authenticated before listing them. You can't always trust your own instinct.

And if you have more bags you got from the same "source," you might want to return them for refunds.
Thanks all of you for your opinions. The bag appears to be pretty well made for a Coach and definitely fooled me just by looking at the photos!

Comment: She sent this pic of the creed. No feedback as a seller but if I BIN it'd be $39. Seem reasonable?

The photo is too small to see any detail clearly, but it looks like there's a stamped X above the upper right corner of the creed. That's a Coach stamp which increases the chance the bag's genuine. But we really need to see a bigger photo if you can enlarge it.

ETA - I just enlarged it a bit and there's no X, just my eyes playing tricks on me.

And the X means it was bought at an outlet or place like TJ Maxx?
I don't know whether you saw Hyacinth's edit where she said she enlarged and there's no X.

The X on an authentic bag means it was liquidated by Coach and sent to a discounter like TJ's, the Rack, etc., but I just want to say that although rare, the "X" stamp has been faked.

Ah, no, I missed Hyancinth's post - server issues here. Thanks.

So does this make it more or less likely to be genuine?

It's a genuine Envelope Swing Wallet 4873 and is in my Spring 1996 catalog, so close enough.
