:/ I hate to buy from someone who sells fakes... Is it possible they just don't know?
While most honest sellers appreciate a heads up when they've erred, there are many sellers who know exactly what they're peddling and don't like being called on it. So I don't recommend sending a message. Those types of sellers can (and do) report for "misuse of ebay's messaging system" and if reported, YOU can find yourself sanctioned. (I know several people who were suspended for doing just that.)

It's better to just report any listings for fakes and let those sellers find out when they get a takedown message from ebay.

Sheesh. What DOES Ebay policy allow? Besides tens of thousands of Chinese fakes, and fraudulent listings where scammers from the other side of the world grab your money and then disappear? Seems that links within Ebay would be the least of their problems.
They allow loads of foreign scammers and others who list dozens of fakes but go after sellers of legit items if the auction price doesnt meet their "expected amount". Just fought 4 months with them over this. They are setup so once accused, you have no possible way to refute it. Even when the buyer is happy, they stick their nose in and claim the price was too low as the only reason for questioning authenticity. No wonder the explosion of other sites. BTW, I am new here and seem to be the only guy....No, i dont wear the purses, but I do sell quite a few pre-owned and have come to know many brands very well and love purses. I get it now, the purse thing with women. Its not just a "useful tool" like a wallet to a guy...or just a place to carry things....it is style, expression and many women love and collect them like guys collect well....guy stuff. (beer cans, golf clubs, motorcycles) and no intent to be sexist with that, just observation. Im the only guy who runs to the purses at a GW first, and then to the designer rows. I buy most of mine at estate auctions or direct from the families as I live in a retirement area. Steady source but so depressing and never found a single fake from the estates. These older ladies here in Ft Lauderdale only shopped at Macys or mall stores and most have never shopped online. By the way I am uploading a photo of a smaller Coach bag I am going to list. I triple check all my listings but cant find this one anywhere to compare. It checks out with the Signature pattern mirrored on the seams, the inside tag printing and hardware, but I need to be sure

Authentic.

You aren't supposed to alter anything before you return, which would include marking it as fake. Open a not as described return and include in your description why it is fake. Mention that you had it authenticated and were told it is fake. It's possible the seller will accept your return right away or refund you and tell you keep it. Don't close the case until you have gotten all your money back. If the seller doesn't agree to the return, you will have to escalate. You have to wait about a week to do that. If you have to escalate, you can add more information and pictures to bolster your case, but ebay isn't in the authenticating business so unless the seller can prove it is authentic in some way and ebay decides to listen to him, you will win your case. If you want to make sure, when you escalate, call ebay and keep them on the phone until you get someone to make a decision.

I had to escalate today. eBay came back in my favor about an hour later.
The seller was really pretty sketchy during the whole thing. Taking too long to answer. Saying it has to be authentic because she sold a black one she got separately (what?) Then, saying she'd take it back, but she really needed me to pay all the shipping costs. It was very weird.
I'll send it back today. I guess I'll see it she ever reimburses me.
Seller: jonessolutions

If you opened a case, you should have gotten a prepaid shipping label to send it back so you shouldn't have to pay to ship it. When she receives it, she only has the option of issuing a complete refund; she can't hold out the original shipping costs. She already lost; she can't be negotiating on having you pay for shipping. If she doesn't issue the refund, ebay will force her to. Don't close the case until you have your refund.

There are other guys scattered throughout the handbag forums so don't feel like you're the only one. Some are sellers, some are wearers, and some are just interested in fashion in all its varieties. Guys collect fashion too, I used to work with one who collected ties. And they were GORGEOUS. At the time he probably would spend as much on one of his ties as I was spending on a single Coach, but he had fun doing it and looked good to boot.

Lucky you to be living in an area where the ladies prefer the real thing - welcome to tPF!

Identity: #5190 Envelope Portfolio. Please allow others to authenticate, but I've yet to see a counterfeit with a "MADE IN NEW YORK CITY USA" creed.

So, is it really safe to say if I feel ok about it and use common sense, I wouldn't need to post NYC creeds to be authenticated? I don't want to seem like a newbie by posting them for authentication and everyone thinks, "duh".

Item: Lunchbox 9991 Black Satchel
Listing #: 17444830
Seller: Patti (Tradesy)
Link: https://www.tradesy.com/bags/coach-vintage-leather-satchel-black-17444830/?tref=similarForYou

Is this bag worth the price even with the strap missing?

It shouldn't be hard finding a black strap with brass hardware in the width and length you need. The edging on one side looks a bit rough, and the seller also says it has "leather aging". It depends on how much time and money you want to invest in improvements. You're the only one who can decide if it's worth it to you or not, but the asking price wouldn't bother me as long as I knew I'd have to find a strap.. Just be sure to look at the pictures carefully, if you're on a "real" computer you should be able to right-click - Open in new Window or Tab - on each one and an enlarged version will come up.

More opinions are welcome.

You're probably safe, but no one here is EVER going to think you're silly just because you're careful. And just because we haven't seen a fake NYC creed before doesn't mean they don't exist. Never say Never.
