So does this mean the original SRP for this particular bag is like under 1000euros
(Iam just guessing outlet price vs normal SRP with nylon lining instead of suede etc)

I would certainly think so. Let's see what other authenticators say about that because I've never seen a price tag for an outlet veneta. :smile1:

I have a pic of a receipt from 2004 for a bag like this (this bag was produced in 2004 or most probably earlier)... USD$439 - definitely under 1000 euros.

mmm many thanks Baggiana, so this seller is asking a rather steep price if we say this bag is around 700euros(in 2010 prices).

I mean I passed over a "normal" hobo which was selling for 440UKpounds:crybaby:
and later lost a second round of bids:pout:

And stopped bidding for a small hobo(which sold for only US$335) because I liked this color.

Anyway THANK YOU ALL for your comments!!
Sofia

I already purchased and received this. I like to think I know the Bottega Veneta brand (though now I have my doubts). I've owned quite a few over the years. I carefully inspected this bag and on the basis of the craftmanship, it looks authentic. The problem is the authenticity tag, specifically the back of it:

There's no accent on the "A" in ORIGINALITA'. My veneta and sloane have tags with the accent on the "A", as do all the ones I checked on ebay.

Under ordinary circumstances, I would immediately conclude that the bag was not authentic. However, everything else about this back seems right: the stitching, the leather, the metal plate, the drape of the bag, the smell.

My dealings with the seller did not raise any red flags either. However, looking at her feedback history, she doesn't seem to have much experience selling luxury brands.

I've also attached a few more pictures to supplement the ones in the auction listing that don't show up that well.

Thank you!

First, taliaferro, your pictures are very small and hard to read. The authenticity tag about which you have doubts indicates that the color of this bag should be copper - not black. Also, I really cannot see the surface of the metal tag, nor read the numbers, but from the auction, I would have said that it does not have the right appearance. I believe that you received a counterfeit just based on the authenticity tag...
I want others to weigh in, but if they agree, you should file immediately with ebay and paypal and ask for them to handle this... do not negotiate directly with the seller. Hopefully you paid for this via paypal and a credit card and if worse comes to worse, you can do a charge back.

I did want to report this, but the pics were really not good enough for me to see the details and read the tag, and be certain - though I felt pretty sure. I have always felt that eBay should require certain pic and quality of pics for bags that may be subject to counterfeiting. Someone else posted the numbers on the tag provided by the seller in an earlier post here, and I told them not to touch this. I am sorry.

Just a question: did you try to get this authenticated here before you bid? I am not shaking my finger at you, but it would have saved you the heartache. OK... let's see what Miss_FancyBags, doloresmia, jburgh and boxermom have to say, too.

Addendum: I just checked ... see post 1780 and 1781- this bag is a counterfeit - again based on the authenticity tag alone... and I would love to get a good large close-up of the metal tag, because I am betting that it is "wrong," too!

Oh no.

I didn't seek authentication here. I'm a fool. :shucks: Instead, I checked the BV fakes/hall of shame thread before I purchased and noted that nearly all the links exposing fakes were taken down by ebay. I therefore assumed that if this bag was fake, it would be shut down as well. I bid in the last few seconds via proxy, thinking that if it was still around, all was good.

And yes, I paid via paypal, funded by American Express. The seller specified this was a final sale, so I have a feeling it might get ugly. Ahhhh. The seller wrapped it in a gold bow, and wrote a lovely note. I have a feeling she was duped by her client.

I will attempt to repost the photos you requested. They are so tiny because they wouldn't upload unless I resized them to fit. I'll go read some threads on how to post big pictures.

Posting larger pictures still eludes me, even after reading a very long how-to thread. Can anyone help me? Is it best to upload on a photo hosting site like photobucket?

Another thing I noticed is that the authenticity tags on my other Bottega bags (both purchased at the BV boutique) have irregular edges, as though they might have been perforated before being sewn on. The edges of the tag on the Cabat are clean cut.

Also, I just noticed that the seller blacked out her name on the USPS click-n-ship label affixed to the shipping box. I can't think of any good reason to that!

I'm so sick over this.

taliaferro - take a deep breath! If you paid via paypal, then you should have a name to whom you paid... You are correct about the tag... otherwise does it look and feel like the same material of the other authenticity tags in your authentic bags or is is a different material? The fact that she blacked out her name does not bode well for her. Ebay and paypal can help you - and your cc will too. This item has ebay protection. If you will PM me, perhaps I can help you. I would have encouraged to contact the seller, but I think the best way is to go through ebay directly.

MissFancy_Bags, can you help?

Sorry...not a good sign regarding the edges of the tag. What's on the tag is bothersome, also. Baggiana had some good tips on what you might want to do next. My fingers are crossed that things work out for you!

This is where I have to be a bit careful because of a conflict of interest. Personally, I would go to the seller and ask for them to take the bag back. If I didn't hear a response within a few days, then I'd file with ebay and alert my credit card company to what the situation is. (I certainly understand if others want to bypass the "asking seller" part...but as you all know, I am biased :)

If the seller agrees to take the bag back, ship it back asap insured with a signature required in a sturdy box. A bag of this value and size will be cheaper to ship back USPS Express than Priority. I'm not sure what the rates are for UPS or FedEx. Keep copies of this information and send the seller the tracking number. All correspondence should be done through ebay so that ebay can review the conversations going back and forth.

As the policies for ebay are constantly changing, I'd call them just to ask their opinion, too.

taliaferro, I'm not a Cabat expert but I can see red flags with this bag.

Please do not rely on the *hall of shame* thread to support authenticity or confirm fakes. There are so many listings we cannot catch every bad bag. Also, ebay doesn't take down every bag that is reported by us. This thread is the best route to confirming a bag is good or not. If we can't make a determination, we will say so, but usually there are definite signs to genuine or fake.

I hope you can get your money back through pp/your credit card.
