A link to the listing in question is required.

It is an authenticator’s right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format. If the listing you are interested in is missing photos it is your responsibility to request them from the seller prior to posting in this thread.

Thanks and be well!

But note that all three of these seasons called the colour bleu acier.
Those are not all Bleu Acier. The J tag one is Bleu Mineral. Bleu Acier from the J season has 4760 color code. Confused yet? I have so far documented 4160 color code in five seasons. There could be more I haven't found yet.

edit: This is the closest bag I could find to ears' Velo.

I give up.

No kidding; I feel like a cryptographer trying to figure these color code discrepancies out!
They all seem to be in the 4xxx family of color codes (blue) and end in 60. Could it vary by style? Like each Metal Edge Bleu Roi City got a certain code, and each Metal Edge Bleu Roi Velo just got a different one?
I have a hard time imagining a counterfeiter would go to such an effort to get most details exact but would fumble something like color codes, but who knows?
I'm leaning towards authentic with the Velo based on the pics, but for what it's worth the seller also sold this monstrosity:

 Well, historically the colour code stayed consistent despite the style.

Thank you @muchstuff , @Deco , @atlantis1982 for all your input that's making me even more nervous, haha? :-s
Wish I could contact the seller directly to ask her some stuff. But VC disables that option after a purchase was made...
Still not sure what to do, but leaning towards "reporting" the bag and then going through the ordeal of sending it to VC for inspection.
I'm pretty sure I already know what the outcome will be, though...

They’ll tell you it’s authentic and it likely is, you know your Bals.

But that horrible smell...!!!
Maybe @Deco is right and it is that shiny coating they applied?
I don't remember exactly, but I had a blue ME City two years ago. That one had a more matte finish and no distin*k*tive odor, I believe.

That’s exactly why I don’t really want VC getting involved. They don't know a damn thing and will most likely tell me what we're both predicting...

I just found this old listing on FP. Exact same tag code like mine. Good? Bad? Eh, whatever?

I think it's authentic. Balenciaga has been known to be sloppy with color codes before. This isn't new. Everything else checks outs. Though it sounds like the smell is what's putting you off. Is that grounds for getting a refund? I don't think the authenticity challenge will succeed, but can you return a bag because it has an unusual (acquired) odor since it wasn't disclosed?

I would report it for the odor personally - can't use a bag if it stinks to high heaven, especially if it wasn't noted in the listing.

I think it's authentic, too. Just that strong chemical smell has me scratching my head. Everything else looks and feels like the real deal.
I just tested the bag for color fastness. No color transfer at all. The white cloth is still white.
Maybe it really is that shiny coating? The leather is pretty much "waterproof". So they have to apply something to make it water repellent. Or the former owner sprayed something on. I really don't know...
And I don't think they would take the bag back, because it smells funny, tbh.
Maybe someone else wouldn't even have noticed the smell.

My 2 cents - the bag is gorgeous, the fact that it is waterproof is amazing, as for the smell, it can be aired and also placed into a container with pouches which neutralize smells, I did that before. YSL in its Pilati’s time had amazing “almond” leather Muse II, but that leather dye smelled strongly like FISH !!! They even admitted when customers complained that the dye is having that smell. I never returned it because it was simply gorgeous but got rid of the smell to very very faint by placing in a large plastic container the pouches with some kind of carbon powder which takes the smell out of anything. Those were for stinky basements and also what works is a baking sofa pouch for the fridge. After a month it was completely bearable and fine. I just didnt’t keep it in a dust bag.

If you're not completely content I would try a return based on the smell. You could make a strong case that it wasn't mentioned in the description.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and input, girls. It's very much appreciated.
I will keep the bag and try getting rid of the stink somehow. She's just so pretty...
I have a really good leather cleaner that smells heavenly. I just rubbed the bag down with it and she will remain in her prime spot by the window for a couple more days. If that doesn't help I will look into something with activated coal and try that. I just don't want to overdo it and apply too much onto the leather. Can't be good for the integrity of the leather.
We'll see.
