Attention Drawn by Kelly and Birkin

I just remembered:

people mistook my 35 barenia trim II for a gucci (somewhat understandable)

I wear my 35 toile B very rarely bc its big. Someone once thought it was a ghurka from the back. I don’t really see how that was possible, but okay. I said, no but I adore ghurka, and we has a nice chat about how there are great ghurka sample sales and one year, ghurka boutique came out with very different (non ghurka type) styles.

I wanted to like Ghurka since it too advertises craftsmanship, locally made, and quality leather, but it kept breaking my heart when the hardware/rivets consistently came off! Happened on two bags. The vintage stuff is great, though.

When I went to see the Gucci film at the cinema I was sat with my Ebene B30 on my lap hardware facing me. The lady in front of me turned round, waved her Gucci bag at me and said “This is a Gucci film, what’s that? Mulberry?!” I turned my B around and said “No, Hermes”. She just looked at me and turned back round!! Rude!. Absolutely nothing wrong with Gucci or Mulberry though. I use a Mulberry bag pretty much every day for work. I just thought it was funny!
Other than that I once had the pharmacist in Boots comment on my bag (in a good way). Otherwise nothing ever…
OMG what is wrong with people????

No way I would have been quick enough to think of this answer to that rude woman: "Non capisco, non parlo inglese."
:graucho:

Only once did I get stopped over an H bag on the street. It was outside the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and it was by a young, drunk guy who yelled, “Oh, my God, Birkin!” DD was mortified, as was I. Lots of luxury SAs notice and comment, though. LV CAs have been pushing the Capucines on me more and more now, commenting how similar it is to the B, which amuses me. I’ll take another B, please!

I’m seeing more and more H bags where I live (outside of DC), but still not a ton. Nothing like the H eye candy in NYC or Las Vegas. So my B usually flies under the radar at home. Fine by me!

While I do not own a a Kelly (it's on my wishlist), my B30 in Rouge de Coeur gets the most attention. People often stop me and say they love my red bag. I have only had one person say they love my Red Birkin. It's the color that gets noticed, not that it is a Hermes Birkin.
My experience with my turquoise B35 is exactly the same...the color not Hermès

Similarly, my rouge grenat B gets attention because of the colour, my vert cypress K gets much less (as far as I can tell).

The only couple of times I have really noticed it is one time at the grocery store back last summer. My DH and I were in the produce section where my husband had picked up a few onions but was lingering with the cart in the way with another woman in proximity that I thought was looking to grab some also. I told my DH "move! you're in the way! " and as we walked off, my DH noticed she never moved, her eyes were fixated on my bag that was sitting in the cart. As soon as we walked away a safe distance my DH made it a point to say "I was not in the way!!! She was more interested in your bag and STARING at it!!!!" It was my special order bag, a B30 in bleu saphir chevre.

My blue constance in my profile picture has also gotten some looks (my DH seems to really enjoy the people watching associated with my bags, I don't really understand it!!!) but we were also at a bar having a drink after dinner in an area that has a few luxury stores right across the street.

I especially love when young people appreciate beautiful leather like barenia as I always have the impression they usually like Togo and epsom. Sounds like the young lady has taste beyond her years.

Im in my late 30s and i love barenia. I dont understand why they rarely use this leather anymore in bags/slgs—- it is the quintessential equestrian leather that develops a nice patina over time.
