She looks great in this pic to me. Still doesn't seem "plus sized" to me but I guess compared to the current standard of beauty, she fits that mold...dunno. She has a pretty face and she's working that bikini.

I'd guess she's a small size 14, meaning that she's mostly too small for plus size clothing, but too large for so called "straight" sized clothing. It's definitely an improvement over having a size 6/8 model for Additon Elle.

^ Isn't she supposed to be a size 16?

You can't really compare people because weight distribution varies from person to person and how they photograph can be very deceptive.

She looks pretty tall and big boned to me. She doesn't carry weight like a shorter person would but she's bigger than 80% of people I see on a daily basis.

What would you consider "Plus"? She's modeled for Lane Bryant and she's definitely larger than the typical swimsuit model...by a good amount. Ashley is 5'9", 170lbs. Someone like Cara Delvingne is 5'8", 115lbs. She's only 3" shorter and 20lbs less than I . It's hard to deny that Ashley is a big girl.

I don't believe for a second that they didn't retouch her pictures. I've seen her cellulite and dimples on her Instagram. Unless they did some voodoo lighting. She talks about having cellulite and stretch marks in the article and being accepting of them but then they don't appear in the photos?

It's difficult to determine as everyone distributes weight differently on their body plus height will change the amount of weight you can carry. She just doesn't look plus sized to me....shopping in/modeling for Lane Bryant doesn't necessarily determine being plus sized. 5'8" and 115 lbs sounds completely unhealthy to me but looking at Cara she doesn't appear to be unhealthy. It's less about the numbers which men and women get way too caught up on IMO and more about how you look and feel.

Exactly. A quick scroll through her instagram and it's very clear her SI body is not her regular one. And yes, I am aware of people "shaping up" before a special shoot.

But that picture inside the magazine of her reclining on the sand (the one that berrydiva posted on the previous page.)? That's not her waistline. I have no problem with smoothing out lumps and bumps in professional pictures, but don't make a point to include a larger girl in your magazine and then shave inches off her waistline.

Which is why I can't applaud this. You can't champion SI for including her when they created a version of her that fit their standards. The real her wasn't good enough. What a great message.

I guess I should say, yay for baby steps. :shrugs:

She says she lost weight...who knows. Personally, I don't believe that any published magazine pics aren't 'shopped in some way. If anyone wants people to believe that, they would need to post the unreleased copies. I think society is too cynical, at this point, to believe pictures would be released unphotoshopped and any claims to such sends us searching to immediately disprove that claim. We've just grown too used to manipulated images of women.

I don't think any woman in their real version is good enough unfortunately. We, as a society, have learned to not accept women as they are in their real version IMO, even though we see many versions of women on a daily basis.

Literally no one makes it onto a mag cover without being photoshopped to death, though. We all remember Kate Upton's photoshop job, right? Ashley still appears a much larger woman than we'd see on a cover. I think she's gorgeous and don't see anything wrong with shaking things up with body standards. Hey, it's a men's magazine. Personally I prefer to see Ronda because everything about her represents discipline and hard work, but I'd love to see Ashley's cover blow the sales numbers through the roof. Might be an industry changer, who knows.

Wow Cara Delvingne is 5'8" and 115lbs... that does seem low... I'm 5'3" and 126lbs and I consider myself a healthy size. In pics she's thin but she doesn't look unnaturally thin to me. Her body type reminds me of Kate Moss, a fine bone structure and little muscle.

If you go purely by numbers (a metric that probably changes depending on who you ask)... for their height Delvingne and Graham are just outside (by one pound or so) the weight that is considered "normal" for their height. Delvingne is a smudge under and Graham is a smudge over.

I think there are two different things going on here. What women find attractive. Most of us women think she is a pretty lady. And what men find attractive. This is SI swimsuit issue. You know what men are using this for. SI wants to sell the most magazines possible. So in general they want to appeal to the sexual desires of the most men possible. Let's see how her issue sells. I cannot believe it says "body positive". Men don't want that. This isn't an issue of Shape Magazine.

Graham has a great hour glass body but she is overweight IMO.
This is not taking away from her beauty as she is gloriously voluptuously gorgeous.
Glad to see SI finally reflecting women out there.
I wish she had been the only one selected, IMO she is the most appealing of the three women and definitely the sexiest by a long shot....

To be fair, from the Lane Bryant website:
"Lane Bryant is the most recognized name in plus-size clothing, and our emphasis on fashion and fit - not merely size - makes us a style leader."

Haha! God, like...18 years ago I worked for a physician group's corp office. Whenever a doc would move or leave the practice, we'd get their mail, which meant TONS of magazines. Shape was actually one of my favorites. Of course I'd flip through the SI swimsuit issue when it came, but I've always respected women who have the discipline to work out on the reg and prefer that body type over the body type you'd find in the swimsuit issues. So yes...some men (actually, a lot) do what that. ;)

I doubt those numbers are accurate. I don't think at 5' 9" Ashley only weighs 170 lbs. I know weights can sometimes be misleading but she looks a lot heavier than that. And I know from her IG she works out a lot so she probably has a decent amount of muscle weight.
