I do not want to be rude, but I will answer your question this way: Why should you care?! Do you like PM? Go for it! If don't, why do you bother? It is your money, your bag, why should you make your fashion choices based on others opinion?
I'm using my empreinte turtledove PM at the moment. Yesterday in the store I doubled back to get another look of it in the mirror (I know, crazy)! I love this bag! I have everything with me, as opposed to when I pare down to a smaller bag, and it looks and feels great!
I just couldn’t pull the trigger on the PM mono. The closure is what held me back. I have several Cassies and I love the fact that they are workhorses and the closure is turn lock with ease. The PM is a beautiful bag, but that closure is an inconvenience.
Maybe the Métis is going to follow the same path as the Neverfull. They’re both very popular because they’re practical and functional and suit a casual relaxed look. The Métis may not have become quite so popular if it hadn’t been so hard to get when the reverse print first came out. I do believe it’s here to stay and the variety of styles that come out will likely tempt many to own several.
I’m not tired of the thousand sightings of this popular bag. I smile to see good taste! 
It is timeless IMHO! I sold my first one and regretted it. Now I have it back and I will not be selling it. I just ordered the fur top handle cover for it from Samorga for a more "wintery" look. Love the bag and will likely get another one in a pattern of some sort...thinking Since 1854!
