Hi Ladies, still shopping for my 2 ct anniversary ring and I came across De Beers last weekend. My husband is totally convincing me to go with them since their service was superb, well beyond Tiffany even though we shop there all the time. Anyway, since it is a big purchase I need to make sure I absolutely love what I am buying.

Please share with me your opinion, shopping experience, any likes or dislikes about De Beers.

All comments are welcome.

Thanks!

So far it sounds like there aren't any positives about De Beers?! Well like I said, all comments are welcome so I enjoy all the negative comments as much as the positive ones, if any, :p

De Beers has beautiful diamonds, but I can not consciously wear a diamond that may or may not have been mined through illegal and inhumane conditions. I just won't risk it.

De Beers also is an amazing example of a monopoly, convincing other miners or gem companies to distribute their diamonds through the De Beers name, thankfully a lot of this practice has ended, but prior to 2000, any diamond that was purchased on the open market probably passed through De Beers.

Having worked for an extremely large accounting firm, I can say from a financial standpoint, that companies that run like that, I definitely do not want to give my money too. I find it unethical and in complete disregard for the other peoples' hard work.

Also, they do their retail through a partnership with LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey), so if you have any issues with that parent company or any of it's subsidiaries, I would keep that in mind.

Lastly, I find them overpriced. I would much rather go through a trusted jeweler for my diamonds and if De Beers has a piece that you HAVE to have, I would find a jeweler to re-create it for you. You will probably save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Everytime I hear mentions of DeBeers I think of a Ron White skit. He says DeBeers says " Diamonds...render her speechless" but what they really mean is "Diamonds...that'll shut her up"...lol!! Well it's true for me anyway :D

I personally don't find the quality at DeBeers to justify their bloated price tags. Some of their pieces I have found to be somewhat clunky and not delicately made. Their customer service is also so-so in comparison to Harry Winston & Cartier, in my experience. Not to mention the controversial issues several ladies have already pointed out.

The quality and craftsmanship at HW is above and beyond, IMO.

I agree with everyone else - if I had my choice, I'd go to HW!!! I've been to a several De Beers stores and I wasn't impressed with their customer service (SAs there just plainly ignored me) as I was with Cartier or HW. HW hands down made me feel like a queen and they probably knew I was just there to oogle at their beautiful diamonds and not make a purchase, but they totally obliged me!

But this is your diamond and if you think you are getting a great product at a reasonable price, then you should definitely buy what makes you happy!

I believe their record on conflict diamonds is now improved.

In terms of the diamonds, I have to say that an engagement ring I've seen many times is very beautiful. It's the one with pave set diamonds on the band to either side of the main stone.

LOL that's so perfect.

It may have but that unfortunately does not repair their past.

I am in love with their Enchanted Lotus collection, especially the pieces with pink diamonds. Would love to use the enchanted lotus band for my wedding band but it could never be worn with my engagement ring and really doesn't look "wedding band" enough.
