A special, but unplanned purchase by my mother while we went jewellery browsing together. She justifies the purchase by claiming it is a 21st birthday gift to me;)

gorgeous!!! wear it in good health...and happy b-day!

hokaplan, GL deciding. I would be a little worried about the emerald and my jeweler (who is a good friend of my dh) told me that finding a really nice untreated sapphire is also difficult...as others have mentioned.

If you want the green look, other gemstones may be the way to go.

Just think, you are recycling by setting a stone in your old setting! Way to save the planet!

I don't know if mine counts but it's breathtaking & exquisite and is known as the "Pink Emerald" but is really called Morganite. I also love Emeralds...Great choice!

^ That's stunning. I have a morganite ring too. I don't wear it often, but it is pretty IRL, though it's not as pretty and shiny as yours. :D
layd3k, what a pretty ring. Happy 21st Birthday to you.

my posts were lost, so I'm repeating...

meg and frick, I love your emeralds. I have a small emerald and diamond ring. It's not nearly as amazing as your lovely rings, but it is kinda cute, so don't laugh, OK? :p
I must get some more emeralds one of these days. I have a pendant and that's it.

Speaking of other green stones, I have a ring that has a chrome diopside stone in it. Even though it's small (4mm), it's a stunning green. Chrome diopside looks similar to tsavorite/grossular garnet, though it's not as hard.

Two other green gemstones I own that I really like are green tourmaline and nephrite jade. Here's my green tourmaline ring with pavé set diamonds:
