I saw some women had the whole bag full of cashmire shawls, I guess they were the first to that section, I visited that corner regularly and waited for additional shawls to be put on, but when asked the closest SA, she replied that everything was on a floor. As if I believed her.
Periodically they brought the new stuff from the backroom, but you had to be there in the right moment. I scored one while waiting in line to pay, because some SA was carrying one in hands - the cash register discard, he showed it to some male, but that guy fortunately refused it and I jumped to occasion.
I wonder where those salesforce came from as I have never seen them either in Madison nor in Wall street stores.

Congrats to those who scored the GM shawls!!

Those really were snatched up instantly, as I checked that area about 15 times & never saw any!!! Although, my shopping companion found a fabulous one just minutes after I left that section---so it really is only about timing----and there were NOT many. [Because everyone stood in the checkout line forever, you could really see who had what!!]

There was no jewelry, but there was china---and really pretty crystal.

There were also super-cute coin purses!!! The horse, apple, banana, & orange---each was around $600. It was really hard for me to leave those behind!

The general discount is 40%. China & crystal is discounted further.

they show retail and sale prices.
I got on line around 12 so I was really close to the front of the line. The weather was beautiful and the people on line were great. The check out was a little slow but not terrible when I left.
I didn't get much. Some china, mostly for gifts, really beautiful. A small vibrato piece and some olive barena bracelets.
I had a great time.

Dear Friends, enjoying all of your experiences vicariously, and from someone who has never even been to the NYC sale, can you tell me if the items are first quality? The thought of all the scarves is driving me crazy . . .

And here are the rules (from March, credit to racked.com as above)

Hmmm, they really don't accept debit cards?
Forgive me if it's a silly question but why not? :confused1:

There are tons of silk carre scarves in all color variations. From the opposite side of the counter you could see below the counter there are stocked many-many more of the same kind. But when I saw on some ladies a specific design and came to ask for it, none of the SA's (about 10 of them) didn't move a finger to help, even though there was NO single customer at the time (closer to an end). I returned in 10 minutes - there were about 5 carre in that design on the counter stucked in the respective color box.
Why? What is the purpose?
Anyway, if you are looking for something specific don't rush, make another circle and return to the counter of your interest. Don't rely on their "NO we don't have it" or "everything is on a floor". There is a huge chance that something what you are looking for will surface.
Also people ask each other in a nice manner when they are trying scarves "if you decide against it, please pass this item to me" and you have a great chance to obtain something desirable that was taken before you came.

why is everyone going for the Shawls? Is the discount that high? Also how much are the smallest of garden parties? What colours?

<---deciding to make the trek

I affectionately dubbed these women the "cashmere mafia" they were the hunters and we were just the gatherers. What left an impression on me the most was the vague sense that I recognized half of the people there but didn't know from where...either they were the rich and famous or tpf'rs (or both!). Enjoyed myself tons and was tickeled pink (D'uh since I bought a pink mousseline) to see Rose, Abbyroad, Hermesmonkey, and meet Minnie (who was kind enough to pass on one of the shawls to us). Honestly its the nice tpf'rs that make putting up with all the hoopla a distant memory.
