I don't care about Fine Jewellry. I own some but not crazy. I got loads of LV and Chanel Costume Jewellry and I love them. I put my money on watches, car and bags.

I may think to buy fine jewellry when am getting older but not now.

I wear real diamond studs almost every day .... but I don't have a problem with fake jewelry. I think the point is to look good and enjoy your style. If its fake and you like it ...wear it. Some people want variety so they purchase cz. I certainly don't support the idea of purchasing/financing a real diamond that you can not afford....buy the cz and upgrade when you can afford it. Buying real jewelry can be a little like expensive perfume; just because you spent $150.00 for the fragrance ... it may still smell terrible or look cheesy (the jewelry).

I thought of this thread when i saw these fake-but-cute(IMO)...and reasonably-priced pieces (I believe mostly under $150.00) if you like white metals, sleek styles...

i might order the bracelet & see how it looks person:graucho:...

mcb100, that's funny... I am actually almost exact age as you, are birthdays are only couple of days apart. And I also went to a catholic school, just for one year though but it was enough... When I first read your post, I thought you were much older, cause your viewpoints are seem like from another era. Maybe it's because my education has been quite "progressive" but I was taught to form my own opinion on things, never take anything for granted and always do my own research. And in this day and age, you only stay ignorant if you really want to. In my book, real diamonds are somewhere next to owning a Hummer and seal clubbing. If you look into diamond trade, it's so obnoxious. I am not just talking about "blood diamonds" that are still VERY much circulating and there is no way of knowning. I am talking about the "clean" ones. How can you honestly buy something completely useless for 10'000$ kniwing that a person who mined it earns 2$ a day and lives in a dirty hut? In the best case scenario. It is possible that someone lost their limb or their life for your stupid diamond studs. How can anyone feel good about this? I don't own any diamonds and I tell everyone not to ever buy me any. I dont even wear CZ because I don't want to give an impression as if I might be wearing real diamonds. Diamonds are worthless.

mozzarella...it is your opinion that diamonds are worthless but I don't think it's very nice to try to make other members feel guilty for enjoying diamonds. I find diamonds to be gorgeous and amazing. I love all kinds of stones too but for my wedding ring, I want a diamond.

Life isn't fair...that is what my mother taught me. But I don't feel the need to feel guilty for my life because another might not have as good a life. I would drive myself crazy. I do what I can to help others and enjoy life.

I found your post to be quite condescending and unfair.

I see what you mean somewhat. I have some costume jewelry, and some real jewelry but nothing extremely expensive, because I love handbags and spend a lot of money on them. Mozzarella, I'm not trying to be extremely selfish or anything though....I donate to or two charities every year around Christmastime. It's sad that people lose their lives just for diamonds, but then I think that if they worked that hard to mine the diamonds than somebody should wear them, because miners worked really hard just to mine them. I just don't really like to overcomplicate things. If I think a piece of jewelry is beautiful and I have the money at that time, I'll buy it. I do tend to like it a bit better if it has a real diamond but if it has a CZ diamond or if it has fake gold instead of real gold, if I think it's really beautiful than I'll buy it anyway. I don't like to over think things too much.

What I meant when I posted this thread, was that sometimes I like to look for real, classic peices like stuff with real diamonds or real good, that will last me forever.....and I was sick of trying to find a ring with real diamonds and then later learning that all I could find was CZ. I appreciate CZ, and I have costume jewelry and some fake jewelry, but sometimes I just like to look for real diamond or real gold peices, and I just thought it was somewhat sad that I tried soo hard to look for an orginal diamond ring and I couldn't find one that wasn't CZ. I like CZ, I have a variety of nice peices, but I think if I want a real gold or real diamond ring, than I should be able to find one that's not fake......however, I do think a lot of costume jewelry and CZ peices are beautiful, but sometimes I just want the classics.

Yeah ITA.
If you had said something about counterfeit jewelry, then yes. But there's no reason why people shouldn't be allowed to wear CZ's if it makes them happy, KWIM?

Just keep up your search though, maybe check out some smaller jewelry stores. I've gotten some beautiful diamond studs from my local jeweler and they're really excellent quality as well.

Ok, everything that I say is my opinion, I'm not imposing or saying it's the ultimate truth. I was just trying to explain why I refuse to support diamond trade. Obviously, we are able to enjoy a lot of things in life because other poeple / animals/ planet suffered for it. But there is necessity (oil, food, clothes) and there is commodities of pure desire (fur, diamonds). I thought, why should I facilitate something so unfair and borderline criminal if I don't absolutely have to. A lot of you make a big deal out of fake bags, one of the main arguments being it's amoral because it support unlawful activities. Well, diamond trade is very similiar in that respect. Even if you buy it in Tiffanny, there is no guarantee they didn't come from an uprooted villiage in Sierra Leone. But, of course, you make your own choices. You choose what your money is directed to. If you place so much value on REAL diamonds, than I guess they really mean that much to you. I just found the argument that wearing CZ is somehow degrading while real diamonds are not, a bit contradicting with the facts. When I said diamonds are worthless, I meant that diamonds are used purely as a display for wealth & status, or for beauty, if you wish. They don't have a practical role. It's a known fact that diamond prices are very manipulated, just so they would seem more desirable.

It is just a question of differing values, I think. There are people who give a rodent's derriere about the realities of their brothers and sisters around the globe, and those who don't, and plenty whose concerns, should they arise, can be easily dispatched by writing a check to a mega-charity with an impressive TV ad campaign.

And there are people whose concerns about "conflict" diamonds are taken care of if they can be sure that the money for their diamonds will be sure to go to a side of the conflict that their government supports, which is basically what "conflict-free" diamonds are.

And to be brutally frank, at this particular point in history, we are really dealing with choices that have already been made, by individuals, and by societies, so while people should, in my opinion, certainly heed their conscience (where applicable), it really is a question of only that anymore, and that should not be confused with anything relating to consequences of those choices already made, or to the unfolding of events set in motion long ago.

The way I get around the issue of looking like I am wearing diamonds is, I only wear my rhinestone pieces with very large stones - obviously, if those were diamonds, I would be accompanied by an armed guard - and the ones with the small stones, that are most often mistaken for diamonds, I only wear to family events, and those are the ones I have the most fun at anyway! :)

i have diamonds..i love them. but right now they are sitting in my safety deposit box, with my cartier watch.

right now, i just wear moissanite earrings (after a scare with my diamond earrings) they are beautiful, my engagement ring, and my good old raymond weil stainless watch

i don't want to stress out over losing jewelry right now, i have little children...and there is always a commotion in my house.

guess that's just where i am right now

I love real jewelry, but don't really own much. And I also love costume jewelry. Both work for me and can worn together to produce a great look.

I'm not going to wear cheap, tacky-looking things, but it's fun to have the diversity to choose from to create your total look.

Costume jewellery can be great if it's not overpriced, it's a good alternative if you can't afford diamonds And I certainly agree, it's better to buy CZs and upgrade them later. As far as the idea of jewellers such as Tiffany selling blood diamonds is concerned, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Reputable jewellers should only buy diamonds from merchants who can give assurances that their diamonds are certified by the Kimberly Process. I work for a jeweller in Aus, and even we can assure customers that the company only buys from suppliers whose diamonds are certified.

Tiffany sells blood diamonds?? I didn't even know that. Thanks for letting me know....I might want to purchase from somewhere else, I didn't know that. (There's tons of other good jewelry places and jewelers.)
