Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

I've seen a lot of peeps carry luxury brands that live as you say the normal life.
Whereas I've seen very wealthy carry no name brands and spend very little.
Of course this isn't a generalization, just what I've noticed in the past.

I don't. I have friends that wouldn't spend more that $100.00 on a handbag, yet, will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on shoes and vacations. They live modest in other areas of their lives order to enjoy what they love.

In my case, I love designer handbags and good makeup. That's my habit. However, in order to fund my habit I cut back on others things like clothes, shoes ( shoes, now, I don't buy as many pairs, but when I do it is worth my while ).

I work hard for everything I own and is very appreciative. Never am I embarrssed when carrying my LV's I walk with my head held high because I know what it took to get them.
Excellent post^

I've said this on the different threads that discuss the guilt and/or embarrassment of having LV. I'm fine with my LV. I don't worry about what others think.

Everyone has their "thing" - at my job, a guy collects & pays for $$$-bills with certain serial #s (who knew people even do this!?), a woman has a $14K dining room set that no one in her family is allowed to use (why?), a guy has a new car almost every year and he customizes each with rims, pipes, lowering springs etc, a young lady feels a need to purchase from every one of MAC's multiple releases and the spring/summer/fall makeup collections from Chanel & Guerlain (she does not wear all that makeup) and another woman buys her two grandkids EVERYTHING (too much IMO). Everyone has their 'thing' they spend (too much) money on & can be judged about so enjoy your bags!

So true gre8dane!! I don't carry some of my LVs when my MIL is around as I try to avoid whatever opinion she may have about it but in reality, she has it worse than I do as she doesn't hesitate spending thousands on jewelry and she has A LOT. Even her own husband complains about her spending all that money on jewelry. I guess owning LVs isn't as discrete as owning jewlery, furniture, etc especially with all the logos, etc but it's just the same 'evil' so to speak. We all have our indulgences some less obvious than others.

Nope not embarrassed at all. It's my thing and all my family and friends now get it. They call it my sickness, lol! They also know I can go to a thrift store, consignment stores, dollar stores and Walmart too. Just to day I found a $350+ floral arrangement for $20... so it all balances out in the long run. I love the hunt of thrift stores and flea markets..and the recycling idea appeals to me. Sheesh I keep getting off topics today. Sorry!

Other people have their thing, LV is mine and so I say rock it girl!

I've been judged so much in my life, I am totally over it.
"How can you spend so much on a purse?"
"Why did you buy a HORSE?"
"You need to save all your money for when you are old."

blah blah blah.
I'm one of the most financially responsible people I know. I can afford these things, because I work and plan.

Life is short. I am just beginning to understand that.
You must enjoy things you love, with abandon. Never let others decide FOR YOU what makes you happy.

You feel this way because luxury has gone mainstream.

The middle and above-average citizens are driving the luxury world right now. It no longer belongs to the super elite. And yet, psychologically some of us still may feel or have this nostalgic view of "luxury"

I definitely agree with you CEC!!! :))

AWESOME POST! And I want to pet your horses nose.

Although LV is a premium designer brand, it has become rather common nowadays and in major cities there are lots of people carrying LV bags. Personally I do not assume someone carrying LV drives luxury cars and leads an extravagant lifestyle. If it's an Hermes Birkin, then it's quite a different story.

I allways feel I have to explain how I can spend so much on the things I own, I have had lots of comments on how can you afford to spend that much & it drives me crazy, my DH said dont explain yourself to people but I allways feel I have to, the worst was when my friend commented on my watch (Chanel) & I was explain how I saved & went without this & that I was explaining to her for about 10 minutes & I think I probably just made things worse & then I have a friend who said to me once that she could never spend a lot on a handbag so when I go out with her I try not to use one of my LV's but when I got my new speedy mono I was supposed to be meeting her for lunch & I said to DH I won't take my new bag & he said no take it & what's it got to do with anyone what I buy you, so I took it & she never said anything but I saw her looking & I felt I had to try & hide it, my mum allways says when theses people pay your bills they can tell you what to spend your money on but they don't pay your bills so what has it got to do with anyone what you buy.

i would NEVER care what people thought about something i bought with MY money....like r u SERIOUS?!?!?!?!....be confident in ur self...and if people think u shouldn't carry a LV, then good 4 them, its their opinion...hold ur head up and KEEP IT MOVIN!!

i never think about embarassed or not. seriously i think not that many people pay attention to bags like us. the people that care the most is the shopping mall SA..... :D our lovely bag, shouldnt cause anytrouble to us. i love bringing my LV out because shop sellers will treat me better. 2 days ago, i went uni with my broken bag (my Accounting standard and text book broke it ^^''' ) the makeup SA look at me up and down, judging me and decided to ignore me , LOL !! perfume tester is not distributed to me, and most of the SA in David jones skipped saying "Hi" to me.

so i will bring my LV out more often, just in case i want to buy another Lippy, they are more than happy to help me. and i will not have too much trouble getting their attention , LOL~~~
