Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

Heck no! I went without a lot growing up and a majority of my adult life. I've worked very hard my entire life mostly to pay basic bills and without any luxuries, so now after all these years I can afford nice things I'm not going to apologize or feel guilty for carrying them. I'm still fairly careful about how I spend most of my money though and reward myself with nice things when I feel its appropriate since I know at least for me, money still doesn't grow on trees ;)

wow I really do not think anyone notices or cares about a bag. If they did think about it they would probably say its fake --fakes everywhere. I dont think anyone cares and I think my bags fit me.

Some people are just fault-finders.

I'm sure we all have people in our lives who will criticize so-and-so for wasting their money on (what they deem) "frivolous" things, and then turn around and criticize so-and-so's sister for buying (what they consider) "cheap" things. With people like this, you just can't win.

I know some people who think LVs are ridiculously expensive and literally have no clue just how much they cost. (Do they think they are $50, $500, $5,000, $50,000? I don't know.) I've met others who wouldn't buy LVs because they're not classy enough.

What I'm trying to say is that once you start to feel embarrassed about *any* of your choices, it's a losing battle. Someone will always find fault. Better to find whatever brings you happiness and protect that happiness.

Some folks don't have joy in anything, and they're usually the biggest naysayers -- they're not necessarily against purses as much as they are against joy.

I used to but then I was like screw it. Worked hard for the money or received as a gift, you enjoy it. :D Life is too short, I mean seriously. We all have those that look at everything we do with an upturned nose, its life.

Hi OP. I think if you are confident about what you're carrying, and dont make a big deal, ie feel self conscious, about what you're carrying, other people wont notice or make a fuss about it either. And if they do, you can easily brush it off (oh how was your day?).

You can start small, just bring the LV when you're out w DH, for instance, and slowly build up the confidence.

That you have a few bags in the closet, also indicates there is a special part of you that you're also not letting to shine through? You have spent a lot of energy and money in getting the bags you love .. you should enjoy carrying them too .. Good luck!!

Yes I feel embarrassed lately and I am taking a little break from LV. It's annoying though because I have spent so much on these items I want to at least use them!

I say you should werqq it. Being a little self-conscious along the way happens but since you paid a good deal of money on the items, you should use em.

A trick I do is wear sunglasses, I can see people but they cant see me. I get that extra bit of confidence and that energy of eff off! Hehe.

I don't. I have friends that wouldn't spend more that $100.00 on a handbag, yet, will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on shoes and vacations. They live modest in other areas of their lives order to enjoy what they love.

In my case, I love designer handbags and good makeup. That's my habit. However, in order to fund my habit I cut back on others things like clothes, shoes ( shoes, now, I don't buy as many pairs, but when I do it is worth my while ).

I work hard for everything I own and is very appreciative. Never am I embarrssed when carrying my LV's I walk with my head held high because I know what it took to get them.

I don't feel embarrassed but at times I feel heckled by people for carrying LV; even from random strangers that wanna stare you down. Life is too short so cherish what you have and carry them with pride. There are a lot of unhappy people in this world so if LV is one of those things that make you happy then be it. It's just a designer bag, not cancer or anthrax!

That's right!!!! Just throw on that LV bag, those sunglasses, walk down that sidewalk and think to yourself, "Supermodel, WERQ!!! Now turn to the left, now turn to the right...sachey, chantey..." That's what I do... :D

I am proud to carry my LV anywhere. People give looks no matter what you carry these days. I have several beautiful bags and have noticed that it matters where you go as to who stares. I could care less, let them eat cake !!

Very well said!! I'd have said the same thing!! :p

You will never please everyone. You must learn be happy with yourself. If you feel guilty about your bags, sell them. But never ever let other people's opinions of you keep you from doing the things that you love. Like I said, you can't please everyone and you never will. Life's too short, if you want to carry your bags, carry them with pride!

People will always judge you no matter what. It's important to be confident in who you are and to know the reasons why you do what you do  There's nothing wrong with spending money on yourself and there is no purse law saying who can and cannot carry a bag. If you can afford it, go for it!

Wise words, FreshLilies.
You took them right out of my mouth :smile1:

I bought my first LV yesterday evening. Not even 24 hours ago. I've been wanting one for at least 10 years now, I've always been able to afford one but just couldn't take the plunge. I had no problem buying multiple 300 dollar bags every few months but something about spending over 1000 on a bag freaked me out.

That being said...yesterday my mother told me, "Bonny....you only live once. Buy that bag and wear it proudly."
