Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

I've said this on the different threads that discuss the guilt and/or embarrassment of having LV. I'm fine with my LV. I don't worry about what others think.

Everyone has their "thing" - at my job, a guy collects & pays for $$$-bills with certain serial #s (who knew people even do this!?), a woman has a $14K dining room set that no one in her family is allowed to use (why?), a guy has a new car almost every year and he customizes each with rims, pipes, lowering springs etc, a young lady feels a need to purchase from every one of MAC's multiple releases and the spring/summer/fall makeup collections from Chanel & Guerlain (she does not wear all that makeup) and another woman buys her two grandkids EVERYTHING (too much IMO). Everyone has their 'thing' they spend (too much) money on & can be judged about so enjoy your bags!

gre8dane - this is your second post today - that I entirely agree with your statement - everyone has his/her thing. A girlfriend of my would never consider buying a high end designer bag, never ever - bags are just not her thing. But she is all over precious jewelry - thats her thing, thats what makes her happy.

What I mean is - if LV makes you happy and you love it, do not spoil your joy by feeling guilty when wearing it.

I feel embarrassed too. For instance when I am around relatives I havent seen for a while. The first thing they notice is my LV bag, and they would make comments like "oh now that you are working, everything you wear will be designer". My cousins who are slightly older then me but have been working for longer would also make comments such as they would never splash out on designer bags - that they rather buy fakes - even fake UGGs.

But I see it as an acchievement - you work hard, and you use your money to pay for these luxuries, these luxuries makes you happy because it represent your acchievement - your ability to earn the product.

I like LV, I think compared to other designer bags they are good quality and they last for a long time as long as you look after it.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed at all. If you love your LV handbags, you should wear it proudly. A lot of people will never understand or want to understand why some people would spend hundreds & thousands for a handbag. And that's perfectly fine. But then you have this community here where we understand and embrace that :D Work hard to play hard :) I'm a VERY casual person but I love my designer bags but I wouldn't let someone's harsh looks or remarks stop me from what I love :D

I agree with this.

OP, my problem is not being embarrassed, but being super paranoid that someone would ASSume my bag is fake.

Sometimes I feel uncomfortable or annoyed --not really embarrassed-- when I'm carrying my LV bags but that's usually when people make rude comments or ask personal questions about my bags.

The other day my in-laws were in town and I was carrying my new-to-me Black MC Petit Noe- we were heading into the movie theater- and she says, Oh, I like that bag! Is it Coach?

Now, I never talk about bags with DH's side of the family and I only bring my Ebene Speedy when we go to visit them in Atlanta. I said Oh, it's Louis Vuitton.
Right away she says Don't you feel weird carrying those bags? People will think you're RICH!! like it's a bad thing!! haha

And meanwhile, she's wearing FOUR diamond rings (each well over a carat) and gold chains and large gold hoops. And she's the rich one, too!

As another poster said, Life is too short. Enjoy your bags and try not to care what anyone thinks. And the more you carry your bags, the more comofortable you'll feel.

No :D

I went to school to be able to get a good job to provide myself with the things I wanted...paid cash for my car and will drive it till it dies. I bought a house that was half of what I was pre approved for, no kids, buy all my own bags, dont eat out, work every extra hour I can and besides premium denim nothing else I own is high priced.

Now if I bought a pack of cigarettes a day at $10 x 30 days = $300 average a month at $3600 a year and b**ched I had no money for things like "bags" I would be embarassed.... like my dear sister in law that always has a comment. In fact I make sure I wear a different bag every time I see her :whistle: ....

I also dont care if people think my bags are fake.

Your income level is not on an LV level? What is an LV level income? I'm at an income level where I have to choose what I want to spend my disposable income on - and that would be on LV. I forgo a vacation here and there, I drive a Honda Civic (simply because cars mean nothing to me), and my house is "normal" size...but DAMN, I carry SCHWEEEEEET bags.

What I mean by LV income level is this....... The company markets to an upper end client. There stores are always in a more exclusive part of town, there ads picture Hollywood starts or models in an exclusive part of the world. They have never done a photo shoot that would suggest middle class. There product speaks wealth. Well, I'm not wealthy. Just a lover of good quality handbags. I'm sure the company would not be as successful without regular income folks purchasing their products.

I know what you mean--but LV is selling the idea of wealth, class, and beauty along with their bags! It's a marketing strategy.
I think a large percentage of pfers here are not wealthy-(along with myself:smile1:)-we just love bags and will give up other stuff and save to get them.

My and my husband work very hard to raise our 5 kids and we also play hard, this is my one real love beside my family. I'm proud to carry my LV becuase I know I worked hard for them.

You feel this way because luxury has gone mainstream.

The middle and above-average citizens are driving the luxury world right now. It no longer belongs to the super elite. And yet, psychologically some of us still may feel or have this nostalgic view of "luxury"

OMG- so get what u mean!! I carried my Bellevue out today the second time since i bought her two weeks ago... and my mum said i got heaps of weird looks everywhere from everyone ><
I noticed a few stares but not as much as she had mentioned to me.... was kind of shocking.
Maybe because im too young to be carrying a LV but who knows- but u know what, for me i can understand why i should feel embarassed or people should stare at me wondering why, but im guessing your just a normal person who has a good job that can pay off nice things once in a wile then u shouldnt be embarassed! I think it kind of sucks that people tie LV with super rich people, because it really isnt the case. A lv on average is about 1000, but if u buy a laptop they're about a 1000 too? But noone stares at people with laptops like theyre not suppose to have one....

I have a co-worker that's like this! She has a higher paying job than I do and always wonders how I can afford to go on vacation (I don't carry designer bags to work). But she probably smokes about 2 packs a day.

people have different priorities of what they are willing to spend their $$ on.
