Hi all,

In my search for a slouchy bag, I’ve narrowed it to two choices from this thread...mr octo from deadly ponies or lotus from opelle. I like the lotus design more but your reviews note deadly ponies leather is so much nicer. Any thoughts on my two options? Cheapy leather will bother me but it’s hard to really get a sense of the leather on line.
Thank you!

DP leather feels more rich and thick. The Lotus bag does not slouch as much as in the pictures.

Not really what you’re asking but I also want to recommend DP Mr. Sling as a choice! It’s my second favourite (after Mr. Octo). Although the style is not as edgy as Octo, it’s made of deer nappa, which I heard many rave reviews here in this thread.

I changed into my Deadly Ponies Mr. Caiman Twist yesterday. I am certainly not going anywhere with 8 inches of snow on the ground and 8 degrees. But I still change bags every day. This leather never ceases to make me stop and admire it no matter how many times I see it. Bulle Lamb from Deadly Ponies is in a class all its own. It is silky smooth to the touch.

It's a very smart-looking style too!

Your reviews of DP bulle lamb is making me want to try the brand even more now. Maybe a micro gator gang is in the horizon, along with the octo

I can say with 100% honesty that if one of the styles in DP bulle leather will work for you, you will not be disappointed. And I just checked and on the micro gator gang the logo is beautiful and is embossed on the corner!

So does Opelle use the same leather on the Lotus bag? They say shrunken New Zealand bubble lamb. Actually the grain looks different, what exactly is bulle leather?

It is lamb that has been "bubbled" some way. I read once that it is done in France, but that was just one company's info on what bulle lamb is. The lamb on the opelle I had was not nearly as nice as this bulle lamb.

But was your Opelle made of the shrunken NZ etc. etc.? I saw that they had it in a couple different leathers.

And have I mentioned that Deadly POnies customer service is stellar as well. I already received an response to my email sent just a short while ago about using a different logo or using the embossed one like they do on some other bags.

"Hi Sherry,

Yes the Micro Gator Gang silhouette does have an embossment logo, this is a new design for us that we have implemented in the last few collections.

The reason behind the leather tab on the Mr Caiman Twist (and you'll notice this is the same for all of our Bulle Lamb leather pieces) is that the bulle lamb leather due to its texture is unable to produce the same desired effect of the embossment compared to our pebbled bovine or deer nappa leathers.

We absolutely love getting feedback on our designs so thank you for emailing in and I will pass this onto our design team. We hope you love wearing your Mr Caiman Twist!

Kindest,
Grace"

I recall when I bought my Octo that the service response was super fast. They actually didn't have the bag in stock but contacted one of the stores that carried their line and set me up there, I was pretty impressed.

@southernbelle43 (For some reason, my multi-quote is not working.)

I had the opposite experience with DP customer service. A while ago, I asked whether they would get any more of the forest green bulle leather bags. They said they were all sold out. Then a week later, they put on their instagram that they had some. I barely check instagram so of course when I finally found their insta post, they were all sold out. I asked them about it and they pretty much just shrugged their shoulders. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and look at their stockists. Found a Caiman in the forest green leather from another store. So while DP customer service hasn't utterly failed me, they certainly were not stellar.

On the other hand, when I inquired about the Opelle Lotus bag (they had just sold out), they checked and said they would get more in on a certain date. A few days before that date, they emailed to see if I was still interested and even sent me an invoice. Maybe Opelle is hurting more for cash...I don't know, but I was impressed with Opelle's go-get-em attitude. Whereas my experience with DP left me a little cold. However, they can make it up to me with more colors in the bulle leather......
