I own the medium globe bag in dark brown (see stock pic). I use it for work everyday, but it can also be used for weekend travel as a carry-on or as a diaper bag.

The only thing is, it's not a super light bag, like a bottega for example, so if you put a lot of stuff in it, like I do, it can get heavy. I work in finance so it suits my conservative dress code, but I agree with some of the previous posts that it's not for all women. I think it's timeless and a classic, so I was willing to invest in that.

Here's what the Loro Piana website says about the globe bag:

Loro Piana bags are simple and refined luxury objects that are made with prestigious materials and that pay close attention to extremely fine details.

Each bag is the result of long hours of work, based on the methods and pace of traditional artisans, making each model a “unique” piece.

The Globe Bag is such an example and is one of the favourites in the Loro Piana collection. Convenient, functional, and perfect for work or leisure, it is made with extreme care and attention to every detail.

The Globe Bag is highly versatile: thanks to its particular internal closure it can be carried with its sides folded inwards (and therefore perfectly closed) or left open in order to transform it into a capacious and easy to use shopping bag.

Other characteristics are the practical flapped outer pocket closed with a strap and loop, and the numerous inner packets, including one with a zip.
It is trapezoidal in shape and hand stitched, and available in three sizes: small, medium and mini.

A further characteristic is My Charms string, branded with Loro Piana logo, which has become an additional element distinguishing Loro Piana bags.

I reaaaallly want a red handbag, and I have been contemplating buying the Valentino Histoire, but I have had a devil of a time finding it.

I saw this Loro Piana at Neiman-Marcus, but my best friend and I thought that the white contrast stitching made it look too much like a Dooney & Burke handbag. That said, I think Loro Piana is stunning, just not in red. The cognac, however is sublime. The Valentino it is.

i hear that Loro Piana bags are made from the same leather and the same way Hermes bags are made. Does anyone know if this is true. I know for a fact that the leather inside of my globe is the softest leather i've ever touched.

the only thing I do not like about the LP Globe is that the metal feet on the bottom do not keep the bottom of the bag off the floor like the feet on an Hermes bag do.

wow. i really never notice that. good observation. mine did not touch the surface when it was light with main essentials. once i thru in a book, snack, bottled water, it weighed it down more.

I recently returned a mini globe bag I got on sale at bg.com. It was a great price but I didn't care for the color - it was a very light blue. It was a lovely bag and if I could get a more versatile color on sale, I would definitely purchase; the leather was tdf. I also own a cashmere scarf I also was able to get on sale recently. I haven't used it yet but the cashmere is very high quality.

I was however a little put off by the fact the bag didn't come with a LP dustbag. The dustbag sent was a generic, low quality almost like paper. They told me that was what was provided by the manufacturer. I don't believe that - for such an expensive bag I would imagine it would come with a higher quality, signature bag. My Kooba came with a nicer bag than this. It seems trivial but this bothered me.

I don't know why your bag didn't come with a Loro Piana dustbag - not fair! They make lovely dustbags - as they should, considering that they make such lovely textiles:) The new Hermes dustbags actually slightly resemble the ones LP have been using for years:yes:

ITA

the dustbag is that of a thick cotton material with the signature. They seem very high quality to me. I'm sorry that this happened to you.

In Italy, Loro Piana is famous mainly for cashemire. I did not even know they made bags until I saw them for sale ... in the US - which I found weird.

Anyway, it certainly has a great reputation as a luxury brand, but it is extremely expensive, especially nowadays when cashemire is so readily available at more reasonable prices.

Personally, for an investment bag I'd go to the original (Hermes) or to Tod's, although their bags are indeed very well made. A bit on the very conservative side, but for the money you'd spend you certainly would not want your bag to be "out of fashion" any time soon :-)

:bump:
Old thread, but I'd like to hear more about Loro Piana experiences. Any more fans out there?
I love Loro Piana -- both bags and clothing! I was wondering if anyone else did. I have one medium globe, and three mini globes. One of the mini's is brown ostrich and I love it! I also have 3 other styles. The globe is really comfortable and functional. It's funny -- I see that other's in this thread compare LP to Tod's. I happen to love Tod's as well. I also like Bottega Veneta, Nancy Gonzalez and Nuti. That's about it. I'm not much into logo's but more interested in great quality.
