Just got back from Hermes here on Madison Ave. At the mens store I asked about the price increase, mens shirts just went up today, SA said shoes are expected to increase at the end of the week. Didn't ask about much else, but glad I got what I wanted before the increase!

I was told February for jewelry as well. I don't recall the date, but February 24th sounds right.
I was more focused on housewares, since I have some things on order. Houseware doesn't increase until March or April, I think Equestrian is the last dept to increase, and that is April.

Even more good news! I'd love some little teacups. Thanks, Monceau!

Just think how much a 90 cm silk will be 10 years from now. And can you image eventually paying $1000 per scarf?

Such a sad, sad eventuality. I certainly can't imagine paying $2,000.00USD for a CS shawl in ten years! The current price of $1175.00 US is quite sufficient, thank you very much. How I wish I started collecting these babies a little earlier when they were under a grand each. Arrrgh!

Okay, here is the intel that I have about H price increases as of a few days ago, directly from my SA. This pertains only to the USA. Hope that this is helpful.

Scarves 2/10
Enamels 3/17
Handbags 1/28
Shoes 2/4
Belts 3/3

Price increases are never fun, but H increases aren't happening in a vacuum. Everything increases, from luxury goods to the Cable bill. With oil and gas being the exception at the moment, and the deflationary pressures in Europe and parts of Asia, I suspect less bags will be bought up by resellers, at least in the US. That is the one bright spot, higher risks for resellers means more available inventory in the US.

It will be harder for Resellers to purchase items in US dollars to export, since the dollar is strengthening.
This is true of any US export item. Strong dollar equals weak exports.

Of course, this is assuming we actually end up with a 9-10% increase in the US. The strong dollar should mean that the price increase on imports would be minimal, but luxury brands have been known to
use their own rationale, rather than the float, to determine country specific prices.

Again, I'm only referring to inventory in the US. If we end up with a 10% increase in the US, there will be no advantage for resellers to purchasing items here to sell overseas.

Thank you, Vigee!
Debating whether or not to purchase another pair of jumping boots before the price increase...
I'm trying not to get caught up in a frenzy of pre-increase buying, but I have been considering another pair, so not really an impulse buy.

Agreed that most things increase over time including bills, taxes, etc. For most people, if they are lucky, this also includes pay. However, this year the USA increases seem to be far larger than general inflation. I still feel 11.5% increase on a scarf seems a bit unreasonable. When was the last time anyone here got an 11.5% raise at work for the same job [not counting promotions that include extra tasks].

Of course we all love H or would not bother commenting on this issue. We will all probably still buy things from them as well. But when will the point come when enough is enough? No one, no matter how rich, likes feeling ripped off.

The first bolded statement made me LOL for some reason!

The second bolded statement: this is very true.

I totally agree with everything you have said, but let's keep our fingers crossed that we won't see such a big price increase in the US.
+/- 10% would be a hefty increase. In theory, we should not see much of an increase on US prices at all,
but strong demand may give them leeway to justify such an increase. I'm still hoping for no more than 4%-5%.
